BANDON — This bar is for all ages. And those who saddle up to Bandon’s newest bar will get a sweet reward. Debbie and Ron Dugan and their daughter and son-in-law, Heather and Jeff Bock, recently opened the newest hangout for sweets lovers of all ages.

The Candy Bar, located in the Bandon Shopping Center, boasts colorful walls, barrels full of treats and, of course, lots of candy.

The Dugans and Bocks previously owned Sweets Bouquet in North Bend, a candy store that specialized in colorful arrays of sweets — arranged to look like flower bouquets.

“We got tired of commuting everyday,” Debbie said.

Both couples live in Bandon.

The family-run business offers more than just sweets, but of course, the candy is the highlight.

The chocolate case holds such delicacies as milk chocolate-covered almonds, dark chocolate cashews, truffles and dark chocolate peanut butter velvet and even sugar-free options. In addition to the chocolates, the family hand-dips their own treats. They offer caramel apples with chopped nuts or M&M’s and chocolate or caramel-covered marshmallows and crispy rice treats.

If the case doesn’t hold enough temptations, the row of candy jars along the wall might. Jelly Belly jelly beans, jawbreakers, gummy candies, sour gummies, Coke bottles and licorice are some of the options that create a colorful rainbow of glass jars.

The barrels hold ring pops, candy dots, candy necklaces, even saltwater taffy.

Customers who are looking for a romantic gift and can’t decide between chocolate and flowers can buy a box of long-stem chocolate roses. Also, Heather still offers handmade bouquets of candy.

For the warm days of summer, customers can treat themselves to soft-serve and 20 flavors of hard ice cream, slushy icebergs, smoothies or milkshakes, as well as hot-dog specials.

The store also has a children’s party room, and parents can choose from several packages that range in price. Children sit at colorfully decorated tables and may even be visited by the store’s mascot, Bakiri Bear.

Other specialty items include Jelly Belly brand fragrances, T-shirts, liquor-filled chocolates for the over-21 crowd and a stuff-your-own-balloon center.

Gift certificates are available.

The store is open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Hours may change for summer and depending on how business goes. So far, things are looking good.

“The first night we were open, I had customers in here past closing time,” said Debbie. “I just didn’t want to turn them away.”
