Sorry for the loss to the family, why not save the accusations for another time? On the surface, it sounds like they did their best given the situation. No wonder they are short on volunteers. Thanks to the firefighters who volunteer everywhere!!

fire doubles in size every 30 sec. that means a flame on a lighter would be the size of a small room in less the 4 minutes.you are behind the 8 ball from the time some one calls 911. i'm sure all did their best.its fine if you want to question me though i am an instructor for the national fire service.

I was very saddened to hear of the death of Sid and the serious injuries to Olive. I pray for her quick recovery. I knew Sid as a child and always enjoyed his ear to ear smile and his contagious laughter. When I think of him, I always see his beeming face and it warms my heart. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

Job well done by both departments. Mobile homes are made from a light weight construction and will burn very fast and hot. Which makes it very difficult to fight. Its been proven that a room and contents fire in a mobile home take less than 5 min before fully envoled. A low % of people servive unharmed.

Thank you Doug for clearing that up. I live just down the streen and heard the alarm go off and saw Lakeside Fire arrive within a few minutes. I want to thank you as well as Lakeside and Hauser fire departments for the important volunteer work you do. We want you to know you are appreciated!

The Chapmans hold a very special place in my heart. I think the fire dept did the best they could do. This is tragic and totally un-expected and to this day it still feels so un-real. Instead of trying to find a fault in the FD, try to lend some support to the family.

I was there with My team from Hauser. Lakeside fire was on scene first. Hauser was tapped out after the fact to aid Lakeside. The firefighter in question who was sitting on the running board text messaging was in fact wearing a Hauser shirt, but he is a Lakeside member. Bravo to No Surprise for noticing that. Hey Lakeside Fire, we have your back anytime you need help!

We remember Sid as a knowledgeable expert in his field--a foundation contractor. His rule in the work that went into lifting, supporting, and retro-fitting house foundations was "balance"--a rule that we have found applies to all of life. We wish the best for Olive.

I cannot believe all of the hate-mongering gossip being spread by the malicious ignorant few who claim to know what actually happened. I personally know, FOR A FACT, that Lakeside Fire Dept showed up first, and only 6 minutes after the call was tapped out by 911. That is going from a deep sleep in bed to the fire hall, then to the scene.... in 6 minutes!!!! Additionally, they had the fire contained to the rear of the home in a matter of a few short minutes. I was there! I saw this with my own eyes! Hauser showed up 30 minutes later, because they were requested by Lakeside Fire for assistance. I really just wish that if people were going to talk about this stuff, that they would take the time to find out what really happened, from reliable sources, not from gossip. The family doesn't need people telling them what they think someones friends' neighbors' brothers' mom thought she might have remembered hearing about what happened. This kind of thing is only going to cause them unnecessary grief and/or anger. They don't need that. Check your facts before you play the rumor game.

I will have all you know that Yvonne is part of the family and did all of you lakeside fire fans know that the fire wasn't even out before one of the firefigters wives posted pictures of that fire on her myspace!! The fire wasn't even out when she took those pictures!! So my grandfather was still in the house when the picture was taken!! That's sick.I have some frends on the lakeside fire department and I also have friends that left the Lakeside fire deparment. Some people need to do some research before they spout off. Sid Chapman was my grandfather and I WAS THERE from start to finish. So, does anybody else have anything to say?

And as on that site we THE FAMILY have decided that we are no longer going to defend ourselves any longer against these people. We would like to thank HAUSER FIRE for their quick response. And would request that those who have been making up the lies against us please stop, you are the ones truly hurting our family.
Again THANK YOU HAUSER, we are truly in your debt and will not forget you. Thanks for listening,

We are far from picking on anyone thank you very much, we are tring to tell you all the truth and in doing so we are hoping something will get done about the real liers but all that seems to be happining here is people who werent there or got there later are thinking they know everything. TO KAY B. who do you think you are? Once again i will tell you all WE WERE THERE!!! Nobody but Grama Olive Broke windows and only one was broken so she could get herself and her dogs out, unfourtunatly Grampa Sid ran to the front of the house and was overcome before he could get to the door, so i say to Discusted, you are lieing because the fire was not contained in the back of the house because my grandpa was in the front and could not get out because of the flames and his son could in because of the FLAMES when he tried to save his father so the real hero here is Jimmy AND NOBODY HAS ONCE SAID ANYTHING ABOUT HIM.

This is a simple fact that Lakeside FD did do all the right things to help. This is a matter of TWEAKERS just wanting money, so they think they can sue the fd or city. They are dead wrong. Lakeside fd should sue these people for causing problems. Even a stupid nabor got in the way and wouldn't let one fireman do his job.
Kay B wrote on Jun 12, 2008 2:11 PM:
What a sad and tragic end for good people. My prayers for Olive. They have many friends. That home would've burned fast, toxic heat, and with the broken windows it feed the fire (nabors broke the windows, they thought they were doing good), then there was a down powerline in the front so they couldn't go into the house from the front,Hauser fd didn't even know about the fire till they were called by Lakeside to assist, they wouldn't of heard the page, it goes on a different station ring on the pagers. Get real. These people were very good FRIENDS of many of the Lakeside firefighters.

well it sounds as if the people with the bigmouth photo problem are feeling diffrently than everyone els who were there, the lies keep coming in and straingly all sound alike, the same people? who knows... well it's to bad we still have people lieing to themselvs about what happend because we are not pointing out the truth just to make them feel bad about what was or wasn't done but to hopefully have somthing done to make safer for everyone, i have been told repetedly that "there just volenteers" but that should'nt make them want to do the job they VOLENTEERD to do any less importaint, we have a few comments calling them heroes but i though heroes did the best they could do without expecting to get praise or payment, and didnt use there non paid status as a excuse when they did'nt do the best they could have in the situation. were not trying to hurt anyone just bring the facts to light.

So there were 2 different people taking pictures and someone that took a video of these heros that are known. I would love for the world to show the pictures and the news to show the video, it would clear up a lot. The Lakeside fire dept did do a great job. True they are understaffed, but that is because no one wants to volenteer, and it isn't any wonder with all this mean gossip and slander.
No Surprise wrote on Jun 12, 2008 7:46 AM:
Well I was there too concerned about my mom's house (nearby)- it was very under Hauser's control - Lakeside did not have the manpower. I watched a young Lakeside Firefighter too busy text messaging to make sure that water was coming from the hose from the truck. I have firefighters in my family too and I have concerns about our community's safety. Even though you are a volunteer you have to meet a standard.
Aunna B. wrote on Jun 12, 2008 12:10 AM:

If people would have smoke alarms installed and check there batteries in them, tragedies like this may be avoidable. Then people may get out in time and only the house would of had a little damage. The Lakeside FD has a smoke alarm program and home inspections for fire safty.

Yes, I thank Hauser for getting there to help our grandma, and i have many fire fighters in our family. That is exactly why it is so imparative that Lakeside be held accountable! If they had been better trained, better motivated! maybe, just maybe Sid would be up with Olive, instead of being laid to rest.

No Surprise wrote on Jun 10, 2008 6:30 PM:
This was a tragedy waiting in the wings. A fire department short on volunteers with a fire chief not qualified for the job (yes, there are qualifications) and an elected Fire Board the condones it.
There so much pointing of fingers going on at City Hall at the moment - but citizens need to walk across the street to the fire department and attend a board meeting - it is all a ruse to keep attention away from the fire hall.
