Southwestern Oregon Community College is collaborating with the Port Orford Arts Council to feature a free artist lecture for the community by New Zealand cast glass artist Evelyn Dunstan.

The event is scheduled from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 25, at the Port Orford Senior Center.

Dunstan is coming to Port Orford to work with local cast glass expert Hugh McKay. Her work has been shown in New Zealand, Australia and the United States. She has received national recognition and awards in New Zealand. Dunstan is involved with the New Zealand Society of Artists and edits Glass News Magazine.

She began glass casting in 2003 after 25 years as a graphic artist, designer and illustrator. After working with color all of her life, Dunstan took a lead-lighting class becoming engrossed in working with the properties of glass — combining color with light. A basic night class in glass casting taught her about depth and form of sculpture further attracted her interest.

The event is the first of a series designed to provide opportunities for local residents to meet and learn from national and international sculptors working in cast glass.

For more information about upcoming lectures, to suggest potential presenters or to be placed on a contact list, those interested can call the Southwestern Gold Beach Center at (541) 247-2741.
