A pair of teams from outside the area won the 2008 Pepsi Invitational tournament for women at Coos Country Club last weekend.
It was the 28th running of the tournament, which included 25 four-person teams.
The event is one of the popular tournaments that traditionally kick off the summer golf season on the South Coast.
The Bend-area team of Nattie Morrison, Nancy Breitenstein, Sue Boyle and Selma Cusick took low-gross honors with a two-day total of 211 strokes in the competition, which included one round of scramble and one round of two-best ball. The top South Coast team, Amy Pendergast, Barb Weybright, Sunny Chang and Sally Woodman, finished third.
Low-net honors went to the Grants Pass-area team of Jane Kelly, Reva Flower, Sherry Williams and Karen Oakley, with a total of 158.5. The top local team — Margaret Hampton, Gerry Leep, Margaret Thomas and Bette Johnson from the Coquille Valley Elks Lodge — finished third overall.
The top six net and gross teams are included in today’s Community Scoreboard.
