Corporate media sure are shameful

It is hard to tell which is more tragic about Scott McClellan’s new book: his indictment of the corporate media, or the corporate media’s response.

McClellan charges the corporate media with being too soft on President Bush during the buildup to the Iraq War and the subsequent outing of a CIA spy, shying away from asking tough questions. Few have accepted blame. Most have denied or deflected it. If that is true, why are Bush and his cronies not in jail or on trial? Citizens sure don’t seem to be too concerned about this “common knowledge.”

Did we miss the headline: President Lies Nation into War? Or the networks’ prime-time investigative expose, “A Presidency Derailed By Treason,” complete with special graphics and catchy jingles?

How can it be that “everyone already knows this” when polls clearly show that not everyone believes it? Or is the public only upset when a president lies about his sex life?

If the corporate media actually did do its job in 2002, as it purports to have done, then it certainly is not doing it now. This is the “Greatest Story Ever Untold.” Ignorance has trumped outrage.

Bush sold the country his lies by endlessly repeating them as if in a nauseating film loop. The truth should get at least as much coverage.

Scott McClellan is right. The corporate media failed the country in 2002. Unimpressed with its continued sub-par performance since then, I must sadly agree that this really is old news.

McCain tries to reach across party lines to do things that he thinks will benefit the country.
The very loop holes that were written into those Bills are the reason that I don’t agree with McCain on many policy issues.
However, I will vote for McCain for his character, courage and his ability to reach across party lines to get things done.

THAT,IS REAL CHANGE IN POLITICS!!!

I agree with Janice, it's not good to give more of our money to the Middle East!
We give them oil dollars,
now they're influencing our economy through high oil prices as well as pressure to lower inflation by increasing interest rates.
Who will that hurt? American consumers.
Better to spend our oil money here, allowing AMERICANS to buy dollars, and generally employing folks and raising revenues we could use to build roads, repair rail lines, or really nice pizza parlors.

Janice, Oil isnt what brought war to our doorstep. It was radical Islam.

The U.S. is sitting on the world's largest, untapped oil reserves -- reservoirs which energy experts know exist, but which have not yet been tapped and may not be attainable with current technology. In fact, such untapped reserves are estimated at about 2.3 trillion barrels, nearly three times more than the reserves held by Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) nations and sufficient to meet 300 years of demand -- at today's levels -- for auto, truck, aircraft, heating and industrial fuel, without importing a single barrel of oil.

Until the US ends its addiction to oil according to Bush we will never be safe because it will require us to sacrifice our blood in endless resource wars. You can spin it any way you want but, that is the bottom line.

Janice - you must be referring to the figures presented by the Lancet study early this year. I suggest you read http://news.nationaljournal.com/articles/databomb/index.htm that debunks the methods of the survey.

It makes sense that this information regarding the number of Iraqi deaths came to light ....George Soros is one of the principal backers of the study. Not exactly an objective outlook there.

The fact that media all over the world jumped on the figures from this study yet do not equally address the fallacy of their methods and determinations only demonstrates further the media bias against the Bush administration. I strongly suspect that if someone published an article that George Bush actually had a hand in and planned the 9/11 attack that people would cling to it as fact. Like flies on......

Jim wrote on Jul 1, 2008 2:25 PM:

Please..why didnt CLINTON get Bin Laden when he had the chance? Your preaching is hollow at best.

And as far as the fathers, mothers, etc yes they grieve and yes it is terrible but i would venture to say that most of them are PROUD of their fallen sons and daughters and believe in what they were doing there.

Oh..and by the way...how many attacks HERE since we took action? Zero? None? We ARE safer...you are just lost so deep in your "hate Bush" smoke that you will say anything...

Bush did go after Bin Laden in Afghanistan. When Bin Laden went to Pakistan..what..we should have invaded Pakistan?

And you are foolish and naive if you think Iraq wasnt deeply involved with Al Quida and terrorism in general prior to 9/11.

It is sad that you would say whatever it takes to try to justify your statements, to the point where apparently you would rather have war HERE than over there....

Jim wrote on Jul 1, 2008 2:18 PM:

Janice...the VAST VAST VAST majority of deaths in Iraq is at the hands of the Islamic extremists. "suicide bombing" and "car bombing" are not part of U.S. Military doctrine.

Secondly, if we have to kill ALL of them for us to be safe then so be it. They are the enemy.

Thirdly, would YOU want them to be in your backyard? What kind of rational is that - would you REALLY want the war to be here instead of someowhere else?

Honestly...

Janice wrote on Jun 29, 2008 6:10 PM:

Jim says,
"deaths caused by us invasion? get a grip....how many deaths caused by RADICAL ISLAMICS??? "

Yes, Jim tell us, HOW MANY?

How many "RADICAL ISLAMICS" will we have to kill before we are safe? Do you have a number?

I know you want to fight them over there so we don't have to fight them over here. Are you afraid to fight them here?

Janice wrote on Jun 28, 2008 11:38 AM:

Jim says, "And in regards to U.S. Casualties..this war has had remarkable LOW casualty rates."

Why don't you go tell that to the mothers, fathers, and children of those 4,000 dead Americans and the innocent people of Iraq that just got in the way of our bombs and are suffering from depleted uranium sickness.

Your war Jim and made the radicals stronger than ever before and we are not safer. By the way, this is an occupation of a country that had nothing to do with 9/11. Why didn't Bush go after Bin Laden in Afghanistan? Perhaps because what he was really after was in Iraq - OIL. THE LATEST NO BID OIL CONTRACTS ARE THE PROOF.

Jim wrote on Jun 27, 2008 11:44 AM:

Janice...your references are self serving...

deaths caused by us invasion? get a grip....how many deaths caused by RADICAL ISLAMICS???

oh..and Bush didnt act alone...all of your Democrat buddies went along for the ride too...or is it too easy and convenient to forget that? They referenced the SAME information Bush had available.

And in regards to U.S. Casualties..this war has had remarkable LOW casualty rates....our military is doing an exceptional job of carrying out their mission while protecting their own.

George Soros has a large interest in The Perseus Group which owns the Publishing House of PublicAffairs. The three or four degrees of separation between McClellan and Soros make you feel the need to discredit the contents of the book.

Senator Ted Kennedy said in September, 2002: "We have known for years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction."
This article was buried in the few newspapers that published it. And the few commentators who did see it immediately stated that a
"few old shells" aren't enough to qualify for WMD. On 5/17/04 the Iraq Survey Group, charged with looking for WMD in Iraq, confirmed that artillery shells with sarin and mustard gas had been found in Iraq and are thought to be part of the missing projectiles that Saddam failed to account for.

A Bag of Confusion. Bush obviously, has put his ego and favoritism before our people. However, the action against Iraq should have been taken by the UN when by agreement in the truce, he kicked out the UN Observers from looking for WMDs.
There's no doubt that he did possess them, as we gave him the recipes and materials for Chemical Warfare to get Iran out of our hair. It would be simple and non-challenging, to store Chemical and Biological materials for WMDs in 5 gallon buckets and hide in a residential area. All said and done, I'll be glad when Bush leaves his Office, and hope no further serious damage in my opinion, is done by him.
