Installation of Officers for the Coos Bay Chapter of the Daughters of the Revolution was held at the May 10 meeting. The meeting was held at the home of Alice Fraser in Bandon.

New officers are Judy Wheeler, regent; Karen Taylor, vice regent; Barbara Jackson, secretary; Betty Burley, treasurer; Elizabeth Krambeal, historian; Delores Barkely, chaplain; and Arlene Peil, registrar.

The chapter recently hosted the Oregon State Management meeting at the Mill Casino-Hotel in North Bend. A delegation will attend the state convention in Wilsonville, May 15-18.

DAR is an organization of descendants of American patriots of the Revolutionary War. The national project is that DAR Museum and Library in Washington, D.C.

Officers installed at  Coquille Valley Elks

Installation of officers for the 2008-09 lodge year were held recently at the Coquille Valley Elks Lodge No. 1935.

New Exalted Ruler for the lodge, Lance Bjornerud, was installed by past Exalted Rulers, prior to dinner and dance. Also installed were Leading Knight Jess Thurman; Loyal Knight Ron Lecce; Lecturing Knight Al Corlis; Secretary Troy Jones; Treasurer Norma Jean Yager; Esquire Greg Paluch; Chaplain John Goodwin; Trustees Andy Jackson, Gary Gangewear, Rich Taylor, Bob O’Conner and Phil Dykes; Inside Guards Matt Goodwin and Tyler Al Cunningham.

Outgoing Exalted Ruler John Goodwin presented the Elk of the Year award to Don Calvert, Officer of the Year to Rich Taylor and Citizen of the Year to Curtis Jack. He also presented Grand Lodge Outstanding Service Commendation certificates to Norma Jean Yager and Bob “Doc” Ley. Grand Lodge Service citations were presented to Bugs Bishop and Pete Pederson.

Zonta Club is awarded

The Zonta Club of Coos Bay recently accepted the Girl Scouts Community Service Award in recognition of the partnership between the two groups. The members of Zonta have provided positive role models for the girls, helped to enhance opportunities for girls in the area and provided an excellent example of giving back to the community, a press release said.

Over the summer, Zonta members partnered with Girl Scouts for the Bay Area Fun Festival parade. They also worked with Girl Scouts to help coordinate the Walk with Daisy recruitment event. Zonta members manned various event tables. Zonta members also have been actively involved with the Girls Night Out events in North Bend/Coos Bay.

Several of the Zonta members were Girl Scouts growing up or are Girl Scout volunteers.
