Skills learned at hunter ed. youth day
Saturday, June 7, 2008 8:37 AM PDT

On May 3 more than 78 youth from Coos County had the opportunity to participate in the second-annual youth day sponsored by Coos County Hunter Education with the help of several other organizations.

Volunteers from different organizations helped the youth shoot a muzzle loader, showed them how to track and follow a blood trail and taught wildlife identification.

The children enjoyed a barbecue lunch and then were given helpful tips on proper shotgun skills with the help of Charles Russell. Bill Kinyoun of the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife answered questions along with Larry Bowen of the Oregon State Police.

The event is an activity that parents can come to with their kids and enjoy the outdoors while learning about laws and safety and can see what Coos County Hunter Education is doing with the financial help from grants provided by Friends of NRA.
