The “Awesome Blossom Rummage Sale,” a fundraiser for the Coos County Foster Parent Association, will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, at Blossom Gulch Elementary School, 333 S. 10th  Street, Coos Bay. Funds raised will help Coos County foster children go to summer camp, take music lessons and participate in other activities.

Southwestern Oregon Community College is offering two classes for childcare providers on Saturday, June 7, at the Brookings Center, 420 Alder St., in Brookings.

Medic First Aid CPR/First Aid for Children, Infants and Adults, presented by CARE Connections staff members, will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. The DHS Child Care Provider Orientation is scheduled at the same location from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday. Pre-registration is required, and space is limited. The Friends of the Coos Bay Public Library Book Sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, and noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, in the Myrtlewood and Cedar rooms at the library, 525 W. Anderson Ave. There will be a member’s presale at 9 a.m. Saturday. Memberships will be available at the door. For more information, those interested can call 269-1101.

Family Food Education Volunteers of OSU Extension are presenting a fun workshop on making easy, tasty pie fillings from scratch. The class will demonstrate safe and delicious ways to can different pie fillings, fruits and vegetables. The workshop will meet from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 7, at the Coos County Extension office in Myrtle Point. The Sumner Rural Fire Department will host a pancake and waffle breakfast and multi-party garage sale on Saturday, June 7, at the fire department, 60817 Selander Road, Sumner. The breakfast will be offered from 8 a.m. to noon, and the sale will continue to 4 p.m.

PEO chapter EL will hold its annual rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, at First Presbyterian Church, 2238 Pony Creek Road, North Bend, to raise funds for scholarships. PEO provides educational opportunities for women of all ages including those who are re-entering the work force. As one of the local chapters, chapter EL raises money for statewide, national and international scholarships. 

Sherri’ Merritt, owner of Merritt Lavender Farm in Bandon and known locally as “The Lavender Lady,” will offer a presentation on growing lavender at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, at Books by the Bay, 1875 Sherman Ave., North Bend. Those unable to attend may reserve signed copies by calling the bookstore at 756-1215.

As part of Coquille’s Gay 90’s, Faith Lutheran Church will host an ice-cream booth from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Cones will be on sale for $1.50 and $2, and cups will cost $2 and $2.50. Umpqua Dairy is donating the use of a freezer and ice cream. All money raised will be presented to local nonprofit organization People Helping People, which assists those who need emergency funding for utilities, transportation, etc. 

College Park Community Church will hold a car wash from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, at the church, 2548 Newmark St., North Bend. Proceeds will go toward the church’s mission trip to Mexico.

Western Douglas County clean up will be held from  8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. For more information, those interested can call Officer Bob Corcoran at 271-2100.

Historic Hughes House at Cape Blanco State Park will celebrate State Parks Day from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, with a variety of free activities free. All Oregon State Parks waive entry and camping fees Saturday as a way of thanking everyone who uses the parks and pays fees throughout the year.

The Pacific Islanders Club will hold a gathering of island transplants in Oregon from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, at North Bend/Coos-Curry Housing Authority’s auditorium, 1700 Monroe St. in North Bend. The third “Puttin’ on the Dog” dinner and auction will be held Saturday, June 7, at the North Bend High School gymnasium. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. The event supports North Bend High School Athletics. Tickets can be purchased through the North Bend Athletic Department, 751-7159; North Bend Visitor Information Center, 756-4613; or at the door.  

Dance lessons will be offered from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Saturdays at the Bandon Grange Farwest Hall on state Highway 42 South, just east of U.S. Highway 101. A dance follows the lessons from 8:30 to 10 p.m. Those attending can wear casual clothing, and singles and couples are welcome. No smoking or alcohol is allowed. The sixth-annual Messerle barn sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at 94881 Stock Slough Road.

Sunday

A spaghetti-feed benefit for the family of Kathi McRae will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 2250 16th St., North Bend. All members of the Lighthouse community are encouraged to attend. Though there is no cost for the meal, donations will be accepted. The Waterfront Players Repertory Company will hold auditions for a new play by Artistic Director Judy Elliot McDonald. Auditions will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday at the music room at Ocean Crest Elementary School, 1040 Allegheny Ave. in Bandon; and at 7 p.m. on Monday at the Sawmill Events Center, 3491 Broadway Ave., North Bend. A memorized, standing two-minute monologue will be needed for this audition. Those interested in auditioning, or for more information, can call the Players at 756-2900 or e-mail wprc@uci.net.

Several Southwestern Oregon Community College faculty members are planning a community performance at 3 p.m. on Sunday, in the Hales Center for the Performing Arts on the Southwestern campus, 1988 Newmark Ave., Coos Bay.
