Coos Bay resident Larry Muth broke two of his own records in the Northwest Championships of the World Association of Bench and Deadlift at Medford recently.
Competing in the 123-pound weight class in the 55-61 age group, Muth broke his own state record for the bench press and his own state, national and world records for the deadlift by 1.2 pounds in each event. He lifted 157 pounds in the bench press and 349 in the deadlift.
Muth, who turned 60 in April, extended thanks to Levi Westgaard, a former Marshfield High School and Southwestern Oregon Community College athlete, and now a trainer at Coast Fitness, for helping with training and equipment. He also thanked Linda Tarvin, his longtime girlfriend, for what he described as her patience and understanding with his lifestyle that includes workouts seven days a week.
