Birds on the Estuary will be held from 8 to 10 a.m. at the South Slough National Esturarine Research Reserve. Participants will explore the shore in search of winged wildlife. Beginner and intermediate bird enthusiasts are welcome. Organizers will provide an interpreter, binoculars, spotting scopes and other materials to help participants learn about the everchanging world of birds that use the estuary. All trips will meet at the Charleston Visitor Center. The cost is $1 per birder. Registration is required. For more information or to register, those interested can call 888-5558.
The South Coast Hospice Thrift Store will hold a second-anniversary celebration beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. Participants will receive a 10-, 20- or 50-percent discount with purchases. The store is located at 1955 Meade St., North Bend.
Wine Walk will be held in downtown Coos Bay from 5 to 7 p.m. The event will begin at Rife’s Home Furnishings at Second Street and Anderson Avenue. Thirteen participating businesses may offer wine samples and in-store specials for the evening.
Several student-directed 10-minute plays will be presented in the Southwestern Oregon Community College Theatre Department’s annual showcase at 6:30 p.m. in the Hales Center for the Performing Arts on the campus in Coos Bay. The lineup includes the comedy “Wham Bam,” in which Batman and Superman’s wife meet for a surreptitious hotel affair; David Ives’ “The Philadelphia”; Christopher Durang’s “Naomi in the Livingroom”; and an original student work by Peter Wilson and Justin McCarley.
Bandon Playhouse will present the romantic comedy “You Can’t Get There from Here” at 7:30 p.m. at the Sprague Community Theater in Bandon. Additional performances are at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, June 7, 13, and 14 and at 2 p.m. Sundays, June 8 and 15. Directed by Kathie Lecce and produced by Pam Hansen, the play centers on the Mavis Garner Bed and Breakfast, which gets most of its customers when their cars are disabled after they hit the city-authorized pothole on Elm Street. A reporter tries to dig up what’s going on in this small town. Tickets cost $12 and $10 for students and seniors.
A Stable and Free Eternally meeting will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. every Friday, at the North Bend Church of God, 1067 Newmark St. The meeting is open to people experiencing any type of addictive behavior. For more information, those interested can call 756-6289 or 888-0401.
