Sunday, Monday

Waterfront auditions

The Waterfront Players Repertory Company will hold auditions for a new play by Artistic Director Judy Elliot McDonald.

Auditions will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday at the music room at Ocean Crest Elementary School, 1040 Allegheny Ave. in Bandon; and at 7 p.m. on Monday, at the Sawmill Events Center, 3491 Broadway Ave., North Bend. A memorized, standing two-minute monologue will be needed for this audition.

The play, “The Dreams of Pandora,” has roles for five women and two men. The women range in age from 18 to 60; the men range in age from 30 to 50.  The characters include the lead, Abbey, a fit professional woman in her 40s; Swapneshwari, a Hindu goddess; Katie, a teenage “Amazing girl”; Dr. Singer, a psychiatrist; Carolyn, a psychiatric nurse practitioner; Simone de Beauvoir; and George Bernard Shaw.

In the play, Abbey Martin has a dead-end job, a flat-line marriage, her first hot flash, and she’s just been informed that she’s living in a “post-feminist” world. With the help of a savvy psychiatrist, and visits from a Hindu goddess, Beauvoir and Shaw, she begins to sort out a new life for herself in this brash, funny, imaginative drama, described a press release.

The play will be in rehearsal through August. The Players are negotiating with a variety of theaters to take the show on the road for performances throughout southern Oregon in early fall.

Those interested in auditioning, or for more information, can call the Players at 756-2900 or e-mail wprc@uci.net
