Those who missed the Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain last month, or who are hoping for another close look at tall ships, can see the clipper Lynx this Friday.

The Lynx is scheduled to sail into Coos Bay, surrounded by the sounds of cannon salutes from its main battery. The crew expects to arrive around 3 p.m.

The 122-foot square topsail schooner is an interpretation of a privateer or naval schooner from the War of 1812. It is fitted with period ordnance and flies pennants and flags from the 1812 era, making it one of the first ships to defend American freedom. Because of their swiftness and maneuverability, these ships were most effective as blockade runners and offensive weapons of war. The Privateer Lynx was hired to train the cast and crew of the hit movie “Pirates of the Caribbean,” a press release said.

Lynx crew members, who wear period uniforms and operate the ship in keeping with the maritime traditions of early 19th Century America, will offer public dockside tours and adventure sails on Saturday and Sunday.

Dockside tours on the Lynx will be offered from 4 to 5 p.m. for a donation Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, for $5. Children 12 years old and under are free. Adventure sails will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday for $65  for adults and $30 for children.

The Lynx operates under the auspices of the Lynx Educational Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to hands-on educational programs that teach early American history and science. The comprehensive, interactive programs are designed to enrich personal achievement through teamwork and the discipline of sail training, the press release said.

Isn't google great? Anybody can do it, (almost)

Seeing as how the ship is not here yet, the World probably doesn't have any photos or is unable to obtain any for inclusion in their commercial publication. Perhaps a Google search for "tall ship lynx" isn't too much of a hassle.
