Reedsport-area residents will have an opportunity to get rid of metal wastes around their homes — for free — on Saturday. It’s part of a fundraiser for the Reedsport library.

Western Douglas County residents can dispose of the following types of items: hot water heaters, stoves, refrigerators, freezers, washers and dryers, scrap metal, metal siding and roofing, tires, metal wheels, automobiles, car batteries and propane tanks. The pick up will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Residents who wish to dispose of a vehicle free of charge must have a legal title, if available, or be in legal control of the property where the vehicle is parked. This year, Mast Bros. will broaden the area for vehicle pick-up to a 30-mile radius from Reedsport.

The company began taking calls for pick-up on Monday. To make arrangements and clarify that the vehicle is in the radius, those interested can call Mast Bros. at (541) 271-3019.

Tires will be accepted with or without rims, but they must be free of debris. No commercial/semi-truck tires will be accepted.

Any items containing liquid will not be accepted.

All other items can be transported to the vacant lot behind Roseburg Forest Products, west of the intersection of state Highway 38 and U.S. Highway 101. Those unable to transport items can call the police department at (541) 271-2100. Pick-up crews will only travel as far as Gardiner, Tugman Hill, the Smith River Store and Bob’s Market. Cut off time for pick-up requests will be 2 p.m.

Donations will be accepted. All proceeds will go to the renovation of the Reedsport Branch Library.

For every vehicle picked up, Mast Bros. will donate $20 to the library.
