Fishing families emergency housing assistance available
Tuesday, June 3, 2008 11:06 AM PDT
Fishermen facing eviction or utility shut-off notices can receive emergency housing relief or assistance for other housing-related expenses, according to Robert More, director of Housing & Emergency Services programs at Oregon Coast Community Action.
The aid is available to support salmon fishermen and other community members who work in fishing-related industries impacted by the salmon season closure. The aid is distributed through the State Emergency Housing Account provided by Oregon Housing & Community Services.
Oregon Coast Community Action is coordinating the program in Coos and Curry counties and there should be assistance money available for up to 24 households.
People interested in applying for aid must present documentation proving their relationship to the commercial salmon industry.
