Tuesday, June 3, 2008 11:06 AM PDT

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has up to $800,000 in grant money available for low-income and minority communities to develop locally-based solutions to their sometimes disproportionate share of environmental and public health issues.

The grants will go to nonprofits, city and county governments or Native American tribal government through EPA’s Office of Environmental Justice. For the Pacific Northwest, EPA anticipates awarding up to four $20,000 grants. The deadline to apply is June 30.

Information about these grant programs is available at the Web site http://www.epa.gov/compliance/environmentaljustice/grants/ej-smgrants.html.
