Coos County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Coos Bay man and woman Friday on child neglect-related charges.
According to a Sheriff’s Office press release, at 10:44 a.m., deputies responded to 63698 Hugo Road, where they found young children, a 2-year old and 3-year-old apparently abandoned. The agency said deputies later found two adults intoxicated and passed out in the attic. The children’s mother was not in the residence.
Deputies arrested Charles A. Lanier, 39, on the scene, charging him with two counts of first-degree criminal mistreatment. Later that day, deputies arrested Melody L. Lanier, 22, in Myrtle Point on two counts of first-degree criminal mistreatment. They were taken to Coos County jail where they were each being held on $50,000 bail this morning.
The two children were removed from the home and placed in state protective custody. The children did not appear to have any injuries, sheriff’s Sgt. Pat Downing said today. He added that the toddlers were left in conditions police considered filthy and dangerous. |
