Ned Mueller to teach summer art class at Coos Art Museum

The Coos Art Museum in Coos Bay has announced its summer schedule of art classes.

Internationally known artist and instructor Ned Mueller, juror of the 2008 Annual Maritime Exhibit, will conduct a workshop for oil, acrylic and pastel artists in July at the museum. The workshop is open to adults and will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday through Tuesday, July 20-22.

Mueller graduated from the Art Center School of Design in Los Angeles. He paints a wide range of subjects in several mediums. He worked as an illustrator for 25 years and has worked as a full-time artist since 1984. He is a signature member of the Oil Painters of America, The Northwest Watercolor Society, The Plein Air Painters of America, Northwest Pastel Society, Northwest Rendezvous Society, Laguna Plein Air Painters and Puget Sound Group of Northwest Painters.

Other classes offered this summer include:

* Watercolor techniques workshop: Instructor Vinita Pappas strives to create a relaxed, light-hearted atmosphere for the class so that students feel comfortable and confident at any level, a press release said. She will demonstrate painting process, beginning with technical framework and interjecting the vital ingredients of emotion and expression.  The workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., June 12-14 and costs $275 for museum members and $300 for non-members.

* Watercolor workshop: Larry Johnson will teach techniques to accomplish different elements. He shows students how to do parts of the painting and then combine those parts into a finished piece. Johnson has gained the reputation as one of the nation’s top wildlife artists and has numerous publications and awards to his credit, a press release said. This workshop is open to all levels of watercolor experience. The workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Aug. 26-28.  The workshop fee is $150.
