A Coos Bay man is scheduled to appear in court Monday on an assault charge stemming from an incident in February that sent a girl to the hospital.

According to a Coos County Sheriff’s Office press release, at about 10:35 a.m. Feb. 6, deputies responded to a report of an accidental shooting at 63016 Parkway Lane, in the Catching Slough area.

Chloe Eberlein, 17, was taken to Bay Area Hospital for surgery after she was shot in the chest with a .22-caliber rifle.

The case was presented before a grand jury, which on April 15 indicted Zan A. Walker, 18, on a charge of third-degree assault.

Walker is scheduled to appear in a change-plea hearing at 1:30 p.m. Monday in Judge Richard Barron’s courtroom in the Coos County Courthouse in Coquille.
