Sawdust season

The Sawdust Theatre in Coquille will be open for its 42nd season all summer with “Recipe for Disaster, or Camilla’s Culinary Quandary.”

The show runs through Aug. 30. Performances are at 8 p.m. Saturdays and the following Fridays: July 18 and all Fridays in August. There are two matinees at 3 p.m. Saturdays, June 28 and July 12. Tickets are $12.50.

The show is written by Cindy Robnett and Edna Cotner and directed by Cotner and Marcella Russell. Olios are directed by Robnett and Lynda Poe. The play is based on the life of Camilla Rietman, who donated to the theater and a variety of institutions in Coquille and Oregon.

Folk singers in GB

Kate Power and Steve Einhorn will peform at 8 p.m. tonight at the Pistol River Friendship Hall.

The couple is a rare pair; folk singers giving folk music a good name in Portland. Raised in the tradition of urban folk, these musical raconteurs roll life into compelling and beautiful songs, a press release said.

The Music to Life winner of the grand prize at Kerrvillle 2006 for her song “Travis John,” Power writes songs inspired by a simple take on a complex world. Power and husband, Steve Einhorn, run a folk instrument shop, Artichoke Music.

Dance

Dance school recital

Pacific School of Dance, part of the Boys & Girls Club of Southwestern Oregon, will hold this year’s spring concert, “Theft at the Art Museum,” at 2 p.m. today and Sunday at the Marshfield High School auditorium, on 10th and Ingersoll in Coos Bay.

A replica of Monet’s “Water Lilies – 1908,” professionally painted by local artist Virginia Gourley, will be the stolen object d’ art. At the end of the show on Sunday, someone who bought 1 of 100 raffle tickets at $25 each will take the painting home. Students will weave the story using ballet, jazz, modern and tap. The production is free. The 2008 corporate sponsor is Bay Cities Ambulance. For more information, those interested can call 269-7163.

Square, round dance

Sets in Order Square & Round Dance Club will hold a dance tonight at the Coquille Community Building, 115 N. Birch. For the Fifth Saturday Square Dance, pre-rounds will begin at 7:30 p.m., with Denise Harris, and square dancing is scheduled for 8, with Coleeta Quigley.
