The free movie “Joseph and His Amazing Technicolor Coat” will be shown at 2:30 p.m. at the North Bend United Methodist Church, at 2289 Meade St.

Monday

The National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association’s June meeting will feature guest speaker Jim Giambrone of Pacific Restorative Massage-Relax Success Seminars in Bandon. A social half-hour will precede the meeting commencing at 11:30 a.m. Lunches may be ordered from the menu after 11:15. Guests and prospective members are welcome.

Retired teacher Alice Richter will discuss her book, “Encyclopedia of Northwest Native Plants for Gardens and Landscapes” at 4 p.m. at Books by the Bay, 1875 Sherman Ave., North Bend. The book was a joint effort by Kathleen Robson, Richter and Marianne Filbert. For more information, those interested can call 756-1215.

Ongoing

The Compassionate Friends will hold monthly meetings for parents, grandparents and siblings of families who have lost a child. The meetings will be held the first Monday of the month at 6 p.m. at South Coast Hospice Community Bereavement and Education Center, 1620 Thompson Road in Coos Bay.

Southcoast Parents and Families of Lesbians and Gays will hold a Gay Bisexual Lesbian Transgender social from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on the first Monday of each month, at a private home in North Bend. Participants should bring their favorite baked dessert. Everyone is welcome. For more information and directions, those interested can call Judith at 267-6508.

VFW Post 7488 invites people who have served in the military and were in a combat area such as World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Iraq, Afghanistan or any other conflict, to join the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Post 7488 meets at 7 p.m. on the first Monday of each month at Gussie’s, 1088 Newmark Ave., in Coos Bay.  

VIETNAM VETERANS OF AMERICA, Chapter 799, will meet at 7 p.m. the first Monday of each month at Pony Village Mall, in room 208a, the  Southwestern Oregon Veterans Outreach Office.

Pinochle players will gather at 1 p.m. Monday and Thursday at the Bay Area Senior Center, on the corner of Fourth Street and Ingersoll Avenue.

Bridge players will gather at 12:30 p.m. at the North Bend Senior Center, Monday and Wednesday, 1470 Airport Lane.

Bridge lessons will be offered from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. each Monday at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 400 Highland Ave., in Coos Bay.

An Inoka support group is held every Monday from noon to 1:30 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 795 Franklin Ave., in Bandon. There is an initial charge of $10 for books and materials. The group is sponsored by the Women’s Safety & Resource Center. For more information, those interested can call 888-1048.  

HOT MEALS FOR SENIORS: Bay Area Senior Activity Center offers lunch at 11:30 a.m. each day. Cost is $3.50 for BASAC members, $4 for nonmembers. BASAC is located at 886 S. Fourth St., Coos Bay.

THE NORTH BEND SENIOR CENTER’S luncheon program is available to everyone, not just seniors. Buffet-style meals are available from 11:45 a.m. until everyone is served, Monday through Friday. Meals cost $5 and monthly menus are available.
