The South Coast Striders will host hikes at Euphoria Ridge. Hikers will meet at 9 a.m. at the Bridge Store, 9 miles east of Myrtle Point on state Highway 42, and leave to caravan to the trailhead. Don Ivy will lead the 2.5- to 3-mile hike, which is limited to 30 people with reservations required. Those interested should call Don Luce at 266-8201 as soon as possible. Luce will lead an alternative 5.5-mile hike from Euphoria Ridge to Axe Creek.

A SOLV workday, “Invasives Invasion,” is planned at Hallmark Creek from 9 a.m. to noon. Participants will meet at the Charleston Visitor Center. The project is designed to improve the water quality and wildlife habitat.  

The North Bend Garden Club will hold a garage sale to raise funds for scholarships from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at College Park Community Church, at the corner of Newmark Avenue and Oak Street in North Bend.

“Bandon Growing Green” is the subject of a community forum being held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Bandon Public Library. Sponsored by the City of Bandon Committee for Citizen’s Involvement, the event will feature main speaker state forester Kristin Ramstad, who will talk about the benefits of trees to a community, the care and maintenance of trees and the possibility of Bandon becoming a “tree city.”

An Oregon Hunger Awareness Week community barbecue will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Coos Bay Wal-Mart, 2051 Newmark Ave., with proceeds going to Oregon Coast Community Action’s Share Bear Snack Pack program. The barbecue, sponsored and hosted by NW Natural and coordinated with Oregon Coast Community Action, will include gourmet hot dogs, soft drinks donated by Pepsi-Cola, live music, a showcase of Harley-Davidson motorcycles and more.

The Coquille Watershed Association will hold its annual meeting from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.  at Camp Myrtlewood on Myrtle Creek Road off Highway 42 at Bridge. There will be a project site and stream ecology tour, silent auction and homemade soup and bread. For more information, those interested can call 572-2541.

North Bend Public Library will sponsor an Oregon Chautauqua Program from the Oregon Council for the Humanities on the meaning of fairy tales at 1 p.m. in the large meeting room at the library, 1800 Sherman Ave. Folklorist Curt Yehnert will discuss the role fairy tales play in people’s early development and how they also affect adult society in “The Witch’s Garden: The Hidden Meaning of Fairy Tales.” Yehnert will primarily focus on the so-called romantic fairy tales such as “Sleeping Beauty,” “Snow White,” “Beauty and the Beast” and “Cinderella” in the presentation.

Chair yoga by Jevanna Toribio will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. at Unity by the Bay, 2100 Union St., North Bend. Chair yoga consists of simple, easy exercises. For more information, those interested can call 756-5790.

Pacific School of Dance, part of the Boys & Girls Club of Southwestern Oregon, will hold this year’s spring concert, “Theft at the Art Museum,” at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, at the Marshfield High School auditorium, on 10th and Ingersoll in Coos Bay.  A replica of Monet’s “Water Lilies – 1908,” will be the stolen object d’ art. Sets in Order Square & Round Dance Club will hold a dance at the Coquille Community Building, 115 N. Birch. For the Fifth Saturday Square Dance, pre-rounds will begin at 7:30 p.m., with Denise Harris, and square dancing is scheduled for 8, with Coleeta Quigley.

Folk singers Kate Power and Steve Einhorn will peform at 8 p.m. at the Pistol River Friendship Hall.  

Classes on body awareness are offered from 11 a.m. to noon on Saturdays, at the First Presbyterian Church, 438 Elrod Ave., in Coos Bay. Easy stretching, yoga postures, qi gung and tai chi will be incorporated into a smooth, gentle program focusing on balance, breathing and posture. Dance lessons will be offered from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Saturdays at the Bandon Grange Farwest Hall on state Highway 42 South, just east of U.S. Highway 101. A dance follows the lessons from 8:30 to 10 p.m. Those attending can wear casual clothing, and singles and couples are welcome. No smoking or alcohol is allowed.
