Area athletes compete this week at NCAA regionals

Five South Coast athletes compete this week in NCAA regional track meets, with hopes to qualify for the upcoming NCAA championships.
At Cal State Northridge, Oregon and Nevada are among schools competing in the West Regional.
North Bend graduate Ashley McCrea, who competes for the University of Oregon, is seeded 11th in the javelin. Teammate Leah Worthen, from Marshfield, is seeded 15th in the 400-meter hurdles and is part of the 4x400-meter relay team that is seeded fifth.
Brookings-Harbor graduate Inger Appanaitis is seeded fourth in the javelin and 19th in the hammer for the University of Nevada. Teammate Amanda Boice form Gold Beach is seeded 14th in the high jump.
Meanwhile, in the Midwest Regional at Lincoln, Neb., North Bend graduate Ally Romanko is seeded 12th in the 800 meters for the Air Force Academy.
Both regionals will be held Friday and Saturday.
The top five athletes in each individual event and top three relay teams at the regionals advance to the NCAA championships.
