Bandon ‘Growing Green’

Coos County residents are invited to attend the “Bandon Growing Green” program from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in City Park on Southwest 11th.

Kristin Ramstad, community assistance forester with the Oregon Department of Forestry, will speak at 10:30 a.m. about the benefits of trees to a community, and about care and maintenance of trees.

Several 30-minute films, including “The Man Who Planted Trees,” will be shown at 11, 11:30, noon and 12:30 p.m. in the Sprague Community Theater, 1202 11th St. S.W.

In City Park, a demonstration of tree planting and invasive species removal will be presented by Friends of Bandon Trees. There will be a number of displays, including the benefits of green construction by Nancy Evans, manager of the city’s new events/community center, Center in the Park (the remodeled Barn).

There will also be information about alternative energy, green energy rebates, Shoreline Education Awareness, CoastWatch, the Oregon Shores Conservation Coalition and Southern Oregon Land Conservancy.

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service employee Dave Ledig will talk about the Bandon Marsh, and information will be presented by Friends of Gross Creek and organic gardening experts.

Organic snacks and drinks will be for sale from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
