Government needs to provide security

Some folks want: new schools, new fire stations, new airport, new industry on the North Spit, new museums, theaters, and more taxes to fund these projects. Where is the talk and action for law and order?

The rule of law, and to be safe and secure in self, in possessions and in our home, just some of the building blocks in forming our nation and society of the good old U.S. of A., United States of America. An article in the newspaper (The World, March 24), reminds the citizens of the cities and territories of Coos County of the high crime rate of house break-ins and drug-related other crime. Then another edition (The World, April 3), provided a locator map showing where, in the cities, car break-ins and burglaries are easily accomplished and few arrests made.

They again and again, layout the blueprint to the criminals of the USA, do your business in Coos County. Residents there no longer have the will, the resolve or resources to fight crime. There is no money for law enforcement officers, half the jail has been closed and many crimes will not receive responses and depend on officer in the area or on duty. Many areas do not even have 24/7 coverage. An officer has to respond from his home, if home. The cities and territories are dependent upon the district attorney for prosecution of crimes.

The district attorney is dictating a financial view of law and order. While $8 million from the timber sales sit in county coffers. Another $4.35 million in 2008 and again in 2009 will arrive from the MasTec settlement. What are the county commissioners doing? Managing money?

The first and number one priority of government is providing its citizens an orderly secure environment in which we all can live and prosper. The community then can have schools for the children, fire departments and libraries, while the rest of us can leave our homes and property, go to work and all prosper in the framework of the society. That’s how we live in the USA.

In Mexico, Costa Rica or Asia, you find armed guards at homes, where owners can afford them and leave to go to work. The banks have armed guards, in and outside. So, why would anyone vote, or re-vote for a person in an elected office that did not have as his number one priority, law and order, his constituents being secure in self, in possessions and in the homes. That person seeking office or in office would be working his fingers to the bone, to ensure that crime was under control, the resources were available and being used to secure law and order, so their constituents, can leave and return safely to their homes.

Is the newspaper merely pointing out a problem, or is it rejoicing from its liberal point of view? How far along have we gotten to our Third World status? Why does it paint our county as a criminal haven, when Coos County pays $76,000 in penalties to another governmental agency, Bureau of Land Management, while timber dollars sit in the county coffers? And $16 million are wasted to remove the greatest tourist attraction of our time, paid to a Florida company. Yet, have you heard one politician, current or running for office, devoting their tireless efforts to secure funding for law and order in our county?

So, What do you think the new commissioner will do to get some money into law enforcement? Are they going ro realy on taken property, Measure 53, to pay for police operations?

NB Res wrote on May 22, 2008 9:32 AM:

Yes, more commissioners representing more of the county. Many of us just don't feel represented.

Finally, change in Coos County. I agree, Nikki Whitty is next.

We need 7 commissioners (non-paid) representing Bandon, Powers, CB, NB, Lakeside, Coquille, Myrtle Point and a paid County Mgr.

We need to protect people in Coos County by re-introducing Neighborhood Watch programs and get that shooting range built! It is up to us folks!

I encourage people to arm themselves and take gun safety classes. Let each neighborhood in the county work with Sheriff Jackson. If criminals know that EVERY citizen of Coos county is armed and trained, they will think twice about stealing in our county. A county mandate and should have robbers thinking, "I am not taking a chance robbing anyone in Coos County."

For people who are for 'gun control' and against our Second Amendment, I think you should put a sign in your yard: "I am for Gun Control", so robbers will know where to go.

So, let's review: gun safety classes, a shooting range, and Neighborhood Watch programs should be our first priority. Without protection and by not arming ourselves, we all are just sitting ducks.

Boy you were so right on the fact the newspaper tells all the criminals what time of day or night there are no law officers on duty and how nobody will show up from any law enforcement if you have a problem. There are some things the stupid newspaper should not print. It's like they want the criminals to know when to "attack". And I am sick of hearing "no funding for law officers" there seems to be money for all the stupid things around here but not for law enforcement, why is that???? Will the newspaper at least let the criminals know WE ARE ARMING OURSELVES IN THIS COUNTY AND ARE WAITING FOR YOU, SO "MAKE OUR DAY" , WE have no choice buy to protect ourselves, nobody else will....
