Several South Coast athletes enter the Class 3A state track meet as top seeds in their events.

The meet runs Friday and Saturday at Western Oregon University in Monmouth. Admission is $7 for adults and $5 for students. Two-day tickets cost $13 and $9.

Gold Beach sprinter Nathan Moore is the top seed in the 400 and has the second-best entry time in the 200, while teammate David Bonotto is seeded second in the 100.

Myrtle Point’s Casey Cagley is the top seed in the pole vault after finishing second in that event last year. Cagley also is seeded third in the high hurdles.

Myrtle Point teammate Garren Hitner is seeded first in the javelin — three years after winning the title as a freshman. Bandon’s Cole Scherer is seeded fifth in both the javelin and the 800.

Reedsport’s Ismael Osorio is seeded second in the shot put and sixth in the discus. Gold Beach’s Mitch Longwill is seeded third in the discus, while teammate Logan Hockema is ranked fourth in the shot put.

Among the South Coast girls, Gold Beach’s Sydney Snook had the top times among all the district meets in both the 1,500 and 3,000 meters.

Coquille’s Frauke Fuchs has the top seed in the 300-meter hurdles and ranks fourth in the javelin and sixth in the long jump.

Myrtle Point’s Erin Fullerton ranks second in the high jump and Bandon’s Beth Castro is among the favorites in the pole vault.

In the Class 1A meet, also Friday and Saturday at Monmouth, Chelsea Standley of Powers has the top seed in the long jump.

The meet starts at 11 a.m. each day.
