I want to know: What happens to the current fire station?

Q: What will happen to the building at the corner of Fourth Street and Anderson Avenue that houses Coos Bay’s main fire station if a new one is built?

A: The city hasn’t looked that far, but if it were up to Mayor Jeff McKeown, he would sell it or turn it into a parking lot.

“I don’t think it makes sense to put money into that (building),” he said.

The city has proposed a $6.9 million bond measure to purchase property and construct a new fire hall in downtown Coos Bay. The measure is included on the May primary ballot, with results expected May 20. The city says a new fire station is needed because the one on Fourth Street would not survive a significant earthquake and its facilities are outdated.
