Mini-programs, demonstrations and questions will be the subjects of the Southwestern Oregon Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society meeting on Thursday, May 15, in North Bend. Members and others interested in growing rhodies will gather at 7 p.m. in the auditorium at North Bend Housing Authority, 1700 Monroe Ave. Anyone interested in rhododendrons and their propagation is invited. Marshfield High School’s Career and Technical Education Programs will host an open house from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 15, at Marshfield High School and Harding Learning Center campuses. Parents of students who will be 5 years old by Sept. 1, can attend one of the two upcoming Kindergarten Roundups for North Bend School District. Students who live in town can attend the roundup at Hillcrest Elementary School, 1100 Main St. and students who live north of the McCullough Bridge can attend the roundup at North Bay Elementary School, 93670 Viking Lane.

Kindergarten Roundup provides an opportunity for parents to pre-register and learn about the curriculum, while meeting the teachers and the principal.

The schedule is:

* Thursday, May 15, at 6:30 p.m. in the library at North Bay Elementary.

Students entering kindergarten must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1. Parents should bring their child’s proof of age (birth certificate or hospital record) and immunization record. Proof of immunization is required prior to the first day of school, Wednesday, Sept. 3. If parents are unable to attend the meeting, they can pre-register by contacting either Hillcrest Elementary or North Bay Elementary.

The Bay Area Concert Band’s spring concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 15, at the First Presbyterian Church, 2238 Pony Creek Road, North Bend. Mark Allen will conduct, along with guest conductor John Monks. Selections will include “Highlights from Camelot,” “The James Bond Suite,” and “Star Wars.” Admission is free, and donations will be accepted. Proceeds from the concert go into a scholarship fund.

The Coos County Chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society will meet at 7 p.m. on the fourth Thursday of the month, at Bay Area Hospital, 1775 Thompson Road, Coos Bay, in the Spruce/Fir Room. A free blood pressure clinic will be offered from 9 to 11 a.m. every Thursday, at Bay Area Hospital, 1775 Thompson Road, Coos Bay.  Exact room location is available at the first floor front desk.

Author Gregg Kleiner will be at the Coos Bay Public Library at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 15. The free program is sponsored by the Friends of the Coos Bay Public Library. The library is located at 525 W. Anderson Ave. For more informaton, those interested can call 269-1101.

A women’s sexual assault support group will meet at 1 p.m. on Thursdays, at Coddington Place, 1681 Newmark Ave., Coos Bay. The Coquille Valley Museum Board will meet at 7 p.m. on the first and third Thursdays of each month at the museum, 153 N. Central Blvd., in Coquille.

The Saints ‘n’ Aints will host a beginning round dance class from 6 to 7 p.m., an advanced class from 7 to 8:30 and line dancing from 8:30 to 9 every Thursday, at the First United Methodist Church, 123 Ocean Blvd., Coos Bay. Round dance instruction will be by Donna Hiserote and line dancing by Cathy Houston. Dancers will learn basic waltz and two step. Toastmaster’s Club No. 249 will meet at 6:30 p.m. every Thursday at the Red Lion Hotel, 1313 N. Bayshore Drive, in Coos Bay. Pinochle players will gather at 1 p.m., Monday and 1 p.m. Thursday at the Coos Bay senior center, on the corner of Fourth Street and Ingersoll Avenue.

A class on body awareness will be offered from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursdays and 11 a.m. to noon on Saturdays, at the First Presbyterian Church, 438 Elrod Ave., in Coos Bay. Easy stretching, yoga postures, qi gung and tai chi will be incorporated into a smooth, gentle program focusing on balance, breathing and posture. The Bay Area Sunrise Rotary Club will meet at 7 a.m. on Thursdays at the Red Lion Hotel, 1313 N. Bayshore Drive, in Coos Bay. The meetings end at 7:50 a.m. to allow members to arrive to work by 8 a.m. The club welcomes business owners, professionals and others in management positions, either working or retired.
