MHS pair second

Marshfield doubles partners Brandon Benson and Brogan Trull finished second at the Midwestern League tennis championships on Friday.
Benson and Trull fell to Churchill’s Mathias Newell and Matt Walker, by a 6-3, 6-1 score in the championship match.
Earlier in the day, Benson and Trull topped teammates David Perrin and Jamey Moriarty in the semifinals, 6-1, 6-4.
Perrin and Moriarty fell to Thurston’s Matt Raleigh and Jesse Diamond by a 6-4, 6-1 score in the third-place match.
Churchill won the team title with 44 points, followed by Ashland with 29 and Marshfield with 24. The Pirates brought home a trophy for finishing the regular season with an unbeaten record.
The two Marshfield teams that reached the district semifinals next compete at the state championships Thursday through Saturday at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center in Beaverton.
