Almost a dozen businesses, a school and a private residence were tagged with spray paint this week in a string of incidents from Sunset Middle School in Empire to Highway 101 Harley-Davidson in downtown Coos Bay.

The vandalism has left business owners frustrated. For local offices, the graffiti can deter customers as well as stick owners with expensive repair bills.

At Best Western Holiday Motel, a section of fence along North Bayshore Drive was tagged and will cost the hotel at least $150 to replace, said manager Nathan Mischel.

“It can hurt our business,” said Mischel. “It’s not attractive when somebody’s pulling up and sees destruction of property.”

Coos Bay Police received 13 complaints reporting vandalism on Thursday morning.

As of Friday afternoon, police had not identified any suspects, but believe the cases are related.

On Broadway in Coos Bay, several businesses, including Bay Appliance TV, the Antique and Auction Co., Tower Ford and the Harley-Davidson dealership were each spray-painted with similar tags.

“It’s people that have no consideration for other people,” said service manager Frank Pullings at Highway 101 Harley-Davidson.

Pullings said this is not the first time the dealership has been hit, either. In the past, the business just painted over the graffiti and hoped for the best.

“That’s all you really can do,” said Pullings.

North Bend Police reported no upswing in vandalism this week.

To report information regarding these incidents, those interested can contact the Coos Bay Police at 269-8911.

Tagging is now refered to as "immigrant art" in Oregon. We need to embrace new cultures and welcome the diverse displays of this artwork. Welcome amigos!"

Del, put down the crack pipe. This is not new and it's not cultural as those people don't have culture.
Start the deportations and the tagging will go away.
Jeanne, get a clue.

We are growing as a cultural center. It just gets me so excited to see that we have brought to our community a group of people ,that wish to express their artistic abilities on other peoples property.

Lets officially welcome the lowlife trash that has ruined many other cities with their Trash art Vandalism.

More reason for more funding in the prisons and sheriff patrols.
Get the creeps!

Family wages jobs... Local leaders actually leading and setting an example for others would help. Giving people something other than drugs to fill the emptiness left when they find themselves out of work or stuck in a job trying to make a living off what comes in from folks in a fixed income.

Find them and make them buy the paint and redo all the walls they covered with their nonsense. They have to be punished some way, and realize that only brain dead people do these rediculous things. If the money comes out of their pockets instead of the people who own the buildings it might make them think twice about doing again.
