Myrtle Point High School Drama will present its spring musical, “The Boyfriend,” on Friday through Sunday, May 9-11, at the school, 717 4th St. Friday and Saturday performances will be held at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday’s performance will be at 2 p.m. On Mother’s Day, the first 50 mothers who arrive at the performance will receive pink carnations.

“The Boyfriend” is a musical comedy set in the blissful French Riviera during the roaring ’20s. It opens in Nice, France, at Madame Dubonnet’s School for Girls, where six young British ladies chatter about the Carnival Ball to take place that evening, expressing their wishes for a special someone to dance with. Only Polly Browne (Brianna Laird) already has plans, with a young man from Paris. After the others leave, Polly reveals Madame Dubonnet (Meghan Ross) that her boyfriend is made up.

Meanwhile, Bobby Van Husen (Steven Cieloha), a rich, good-looking American boy, asks Maisie (Camilla Parrish) to reserve every dance for him, but she brushes him off. And Percival Browne (Gary Dickenson), a former boyfriend of Madame Dubonnet, arrives looking for Polly.

As the ball nears, Polly invites Tony (Karl Smith), the messenger boy from the costume shop. She reveals to him that she is a secretary at the school, and both decide to disregard money issues and love each other. But Polly has second thoughts when she sees the police chasing after Tony.

The cast also includes Katlin Standiford, Emily Morris, Cassie Dillon, Kelsey Peterson, Brittany Corbit, Stephen Joyce, Hannah Morris, Kody Glass, Joe Latimer, Josh Carpenter, David Shearer, Megan Miller and Teresa Webb.

Tickets cost $5 for adults, $3 for students and seniors and $10 for families. Reserved seating is available for a $1 surcharge.

For more information, those interested can call the school at 572-2811.
