Local foods forum

A local foods forum will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Monday at College Park Community Church, 2548 Newmark St., North Bend. The topic will be the increasing need to buy, sell and eat local foods. Participants can come share ideas and concerns with other local food growers and supporters. For more information, those interested can call Shawna at 888-7057.

Cooking with Jardin

“Cooking with Chef Jardin” will be held at 4 p.m. on Monday at the Sportsmen’s Cannery & Smokehouse, 182 Bayfront Loop, Winchester Bay.

Chef Jardin from the Black Market Gourmet in Coos Bay will teach about fresh meat, emphasizing affordable cuts, available locally. He will show how special preparations combined with knowledgeable purchases can increase the eating experience in a nutritional way. Jardin will help participants balance cost, preparation methods and nutrition.

While the event is free, participants are asked to bring packaged or canned goods for the community food banks.

The event is sponsored by the Friends of Winchester Bay and Winchester Bay Merchants Association. The two organizations also work together to sponsor art classes and Art by the Bay, scheduled for Labor Day weekend.

‘King Arthur’ auditions

The On Broadway Thespians Inc. is seeking creative and enthusiastic young men for their upcoming production of “King Arthur and the Lords of Avalon,” a character-driven retelling on a classic epic. Monday-Wednesday

Nonprofits workshop

The Oregon Community Foundation is sponsoring four Nonprofit Board Leadership Gatherings on the South Coast. The workshops will be in Langlois on Monday; Brookings on the morning of Tuesday; Bandon in the afternoon on Tuesday; and Coos Bay on Wednesday morning. The workshops will explore nonprofit strengths and challenges in the local commmunity; board roles and leadership strategies; building board involvement and success in fundraising and share resources.

Tuesday

Mental illness support

The National Alliance on Mental Illness  will hold a support group meeting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, at the Nancy Devereux Center, 1200 Newmark Ave., in Coos Bay.

The guest speaker will be the Coos County assistant district attorney in charge of mental health cases, Shani Krumholz. She will speak about the mental health court in the county.

Mah jongg game

NB Garden Club

The North Bend Garden Club will meet at noon on Wednesday at the North Bend Housing Authority, 1700 Monroe Ave., North Bend.
