Sunday



The friends and families of the Women’s Safety and Resource Center will host “Take a Stand for a Better World,” at 1 p.m. at Mingus Park in Coos Bay. At that time, thousands of people will stand together in silence for five minutes in various gathering places to promote a better world for the future, a press release said. Participants are asked to come around 12:30 to 12:45 so they can circle the pond and be ready to start at 1.

Heceta Head Lighthouse Bed & Breakfast will offer their Seven Course Sunday Brunch on Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, June 15. Guests can enjoy a gourmet seven-course breakfast, served promptly at noon in the parlors of the Lightstation, north of Florence on U.S. 101. The cost for each brunch is $38 per person plus gratuity and includes a shuttle from the state scenic viewpoint, starting at 11 a.m. on Sunday. Space is limited and reservations are required. Sunday is Rhododendron Sunday and Mother’s Day at Shore Acres State Park. The park will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. In the garden, Shore Acres gardener George Guthrie and members of the Southwestern Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society will answer questions. The Old Time Fiddlers are scheduled to perform in the pavilion. Also, plein air painters from the Bay Area Artists Association will be in the garden. Monday



The Republican Women in Coos County will hold their monthly meeting at 4:30 p.m. on the second Monday of each month at the Lucky Star restaurant, 3480 Tremont Ave., North Bend. For more information, those interested can e-mail fran_holland@charter.net.

The Coquille Valley Elks will meet at 5:30 p.m. on the second Monday of the month at the lodge, located at 54942 Maple Heights Road, in Coquille.

An Inoka support group is held every Monday from noon to 1:30 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 795 Franklin Ave., in Bandon. There is an initial charge of $10 for books and materials. The support group is sponsored by the Women’s Safety & Resource Center. For more information, those interested can call 888-1048.  

Bridge players will gather at 12:30 p.m. at the North Bend Senior Center, Monday and Wednesday, 1470 Airport Lane. For more information, those interested can call 756-7622.

The Coquille Valley Senior Computer Club will meet at 7 p.m. on the second and fourth Monday of each month in the library of the Coquille High School, 499 W. Central Blvd. All seniors who are at least 55 years old are welcome to attend. For more information, those interested can call Bob Kimball at 396-4971.

HOT MEALS FOR SENIORS: Bay Area Senior Activity Center offers soups, salads, entrées and desserts at 11:30 a.m. weekdays. Cost is $3.50 for BASAC members, $4 for non-members. BASAC is located at 886 S. Fourth St., Coos Bay.

THE NORTH BEND SENIOR CENTER’S luncheon program is available to everyone, not just seniors. Buffet-style meals are available from 11:45 a.m. until everyone is served, Monday through Friday. Meals cost $5 and monthly menus are available.
