North Bend’s girls tennis team won’t get any players to the Class 4A-3A-2A-1A state tournament.

The Bulldogs’ four singles players and four doubles pairs all were eliminated from the championship bracket on the opening day of the district tournament at Black Butte Ranch on Thursday. One singles player and one doubles team will play consolation matches today.

North Bend’s doubles pairing of Gwen Rogers and Brianna Blaser won two matches Thursday before falling in the quarterfinals. Rogers and Blaser beat Henley’s Taylor Dolezal and Danielle Vargas 6-2, 6-1 in the first round. They then topped Hidden Valley’s Selina Stroehl and Bethany Richardson in three sets before losing in the quarterfinals to the No. 3-seeded team, Lacy Hall and Cynthia Naumes of St. Mary’s, 6-2, 6-3. A win in that match would have sent the Bulldogs to state.

Three of North Bend’s singles players won their first-round matches. Kaja Gresko won a three-set match, while No. 3 seed Amanda Keith and Andrea Tison won their matches in straight sets.

But in the second round, all three Bulldogs fell. Keith lost a three-set battle to Junction City’s Tate Wiley, while Tison fell to top seed Zoey Martin of Marist.

North Bend singles player Mallory Crocker and doubles pair Camille Deming and Amanda Fowler both won consolation matches after losing in the first round and play in the consolation quarterfinals today.

Seasons end today

The regular season comes to an end today in the Far West League and Sunset Conference with some playoff spots still to be sorted out.

In the Far West League baseball race, North Bend hosts Siuslaw in a doubleheader at Clyde Allen Field. The Bulldogs, ranked first in the latest Class 4A coaches poll, need to win one of today’s two games to wrap up the league title, while Siuslaw would take the league’s top playoff seed with a sweep.

The distinction between the two spots is significant. The top seed gets a first-round bye and then a home game. The No. 2 seed gets a first-round bye and then has to play at Hidden Valley or Phoenix, which are ranked No. 2 and No. 3 in the latest poll.

 Third place also will be determined today. Brookings-Harbor needs to win at least one of its two home games against Sutherlin to wrap up the spot, while Douglas needs to sweep South Umpqua and have the Bruins lose their two games.

In softball, Brookings-Harbor and Sutherlin face each other in a doubleheader to break their second-place tie — both teams are 9-4. Sutherlin won the first game and would take the No. 2 seed by winning either contest today.

South Umpqua has wrapped up first place.

In the Sunset Conference softball race, Gold Beach has won the title, while Reedsport visits Glide to break a second-place tie.

The winner gets a first-round bye and home game in the league playoffs, while the loser hosts Cascade Christian on Tuesday for a spot in the postseason.

The winner of Tuesday’s game then plays at the second-place team to determine the league’s No. 2 and No. 3 seeds for the playoffs.

Glide has wrapped up first place in the Sunset Conference baseball race, and Cascade Christian will finish second.

Myrtle Point visits Gold Beach today to break a tie for third place. The teams then meet again Tuesday in the league playoffs at the home field of today’s winner. The winner of Tuesday’s game visits Cascade Christian to determine the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds.
