Cruisers, Pirates aim for state berths

The Mountain Skyline district meet begins at 9:50 a.m. Saturday at Rogue River High School.

Powers and Pacific join Butte Falls, Camas Valley, Days Creek, Elkton, Gilchrist, Hosanna Christian, New Hope Christian, Paisley, Prospect, Triad Christian and Umpqua Valley Christian in the Class 1A competition.

The top two finishers in each event advance to the Class 1A state meet next weekend in Monmouth.

Admission for the meet is $5 for adults and $3 for students.

Two athletes from both Pacific and Powers are ranked in the top two in the league in events.

Pacific’s Jesse Culley is the league’s leader in the javelin and is ranked third in the shot put. Teammate Wren Carter is ranked second in the 3,000 and third in the 1,500.

Chelsea Standley of Powers ranks second in the 100 and long jump and third in the 200.

Pacific’s Natalie Manning ranks fourth in the high jump and fifth in the long jump.

Among the boys, Winston Krauss of Powers ranks second in the 100 and third in the high hurdles.

Willy Wayrynen of Pacific ranks third in the 3,000 and fourth in the 800.
