Two boys from the South Coast won their age groups in the regional finals of the Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA Skills Challenge, held last month at Benson High School in Portland.
Joey Midcap won the boys 9-10 age group, while Anthony Ross won for the 11-12 division.
To reach the regional finals, Midcap and Ross both had to have scores among the top four from local qualifiers throughout the region.
Two area girls — Britni Ring in the 11-12 division and Haley Woolsey in the 9-10 age group — also qualified for the regional finals, but were not able to attend.
Midcap and Ross did not have scores good enough to advance to the\ national finals, which include the top three regional winners, but did finish in the top six and also got a chance to meet the members of the Portland Trail Blazers before the NBA team had its home game the same night as the competition.
They listed attending the game and meeting the players as the highlight of the trip to Portland.
The local qualifier was sponsored by the Boys & Girls Club of Southwestern Oregon. |
