Crewmembers aboard the tall ship Lynx fire the ship’s cannons during a mock battle when the Lynx and Lady Washington visited Coos Bay in May 2005. Visitors aboard the ships took advantage of the opportunity to watch and take photos during the cruise. This year, the Lynx and HMS Bounty are scheduled to arrive for a visit June 6-8.-World File Photo
Good, because two more will be sailing to Coos Bay this spring.
The 1812 privateer Lynx and HMS Bounty tall ships are scheduled to call on the port June 6-8.
The 122-foot square topsail schooner Lynx is an interpretation of a privateer or naval schooner from the War of 1812. It is fitted with period ordinance and flies pennants and flags from the 1812 era making it one of the first ships to defend this country’s freedom, a press release said. The Lynx crew wears period uniforms and operates the ship in keeping with the maritime traditions of early 19th century America.
The crews will be offering educational dockside tours and sailing adventures. The boats’ arrival, subject to weather, is scheduled at 3 p.m., June 6. Dockside tours are planned from 4 to 5 p.m. on Friday, June 6, and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, June 7-8. Adventure sails are scheduled for 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
