Artwalk! events at almost 20 participating sites

Artwalk!, a self-directed tour of art displays and culture in historic North Bend and Coos Bay, is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday. Visitors can start the walk at any of the locations listed below. All locations will provide maps.

Colette’s
3229 Broadway Ave., suites H and I, 751-1475, will exhibit photography by Mike Holm and serve refreshments.
Coos Head Food Store
1960 Sherman Ave., 756-7264, will feature “No Sulfite Nite” in the wine department, in which those over 21 can sample fine organic wines from the Pacific Northwest that have no sulfites added. Modern equipment and processing methods have improved the wine-making procedure so that some organic wineries are able to produce wonderful wine without the addition of sulfites, according to a press release. Participants can enter to win a free basket of Dr. Bronners Magic All-One organic and fair trade body care products. Participants also can sample a dessert sweetened with stevia herb or agave syrup or try a hemp shake. Local organic bedding plants will be available.
Crystal Dolphin Gallery
1901 Sherman Ave., 756-1989, will feature Nita Branom of “Talking Woman Beads.” She makes seed-beaded bracelets, necklaces, chokers, earrings, barrettes, hairsticks and beaded lampshades. Crystal Dolphin’s “Stuff Your Own Mushrooms” also will be available.
Easy Lane Frames & Select Art Gallery
3440 Broadway Ave., 756-7638, will hold their two-year anniversary celebration during ArtWalk. The gallery will feature the work of Coos Bay artist Pat Snyder, who will be selling matted artwork for $19.99. He also will have some of his newest framed pieces on exhibit. The gallery also features the work of more than 45 local artists in a variety of mediums. As part of the two-year celebration, the gallery will have free drawings for artwork. Refreshments will be served.

2100 Union Ave., 751-1633, will feature artist Robin Jenkins as artist of the month. Her works include contemporary through traditional. Sophisticated use of color and form make her pieces unique and a favorite with collectors, a press release said. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Artwalk hours are 5 to 7 p.m. Refreshments will be served.

The Artist Loft Gallery
Suite 103 in the East Wing, 756-4088, will feature the watercolors and collages of “Waves of all Types and Kinds” by Sharon Backues. Guest artists will be Barbara Mahon’s painting students from the Southwestern Oregon Community College’s outreach classes from Reedsport, North Bend/Coos Bay and Coquille. This year’s topics are portals, lilies of all kinds, critters, stylin’ houses and wharf scenes. There will be a reception with refreshments.
East Wing Art Wall
East Wing entrance, will also feature Barbara Mahon’s painting students from the Southwestern Oregon Community College outreach classes.
Heritage Textile Arts Guild
Suite 157A, will feature hand-woven yarns and visitors can join the knit-in. Members will help participants begin a scarf or hat. Or, visitors can provide companionship while others knit. Refreshments will be served.
The Rose Palette Art Studio & Gallery
Suite 128, 290-7858, will feature new paintings by students, along with Priscilla Wyatt’s works. Snacks will be available. The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesdays and noon to 3 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Black Market Gourmet
495 Central Ave., will return to Artwalk with Horst Wolfe, Barnie Wells and Christine, and will have wine tasting during Art Walk.
Coos Art Museum
235 Anderson Ave., will feature the Expressions West 2008 exhibit, the works of Coquille nature artist Kimberly Wurster and “Reality Check: the Uneasy Still Lives of Gary Faigin,” by Seattle artist and juror for this year’s Expressions West painting competition, Gary Faigin.

161 Anderson Ave., will feature “Shipwrecks and Waterfronts,” the Coos Historical & Maritime Museum’s latest traveling exhibit. It is on display through June.
The display has images of ships that navigated our local waterways, shipwrecks along the southern Oregon coast and historic waterfronts in Coos County.
The restaurant’s regular hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesdays through Fridays, and lunch is served 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Siren Song
135 Anderson Ave., 266-9988, is in a new location in downtown Coos Bay, next to the Pottery Co. The featured artist is Tamarah Phillips, who specializes in oil paintings of ethereal females, a press release said.
Java Jones Coffee House
757 Newmark Ave., 888-4477, will feature the oil and acrylic art of Ermie Goodrich and new showings of raku pottery by Laurie Lee. Musician Bill York will provide acoustic guitar and vocal music from 5 to 8 p.m. There also will be an open artists workshop, where any artist can come in and draw, paint or work on other art. All artists are welcome. Unique refreshments will be served.
Empire Flea Market
1070 Newmark Ave., 260-9500, will feature the art department of the Empire Flea Market. This month the department features a photography show, “Meet the Photographers,” by the Oregon Coast Photographer’s Association and other local photographs. Refreshments will be served.
