The following events are scheduled for this week throughout the area.

Thursday

Kindergarten roundup

Parents of students who will be 5 years old by Sept. 1, can attend one of the two upcoming Kindergarten Roundups for North Bend School District. Students who live in town can attend the roundup at Hillcrest Elementary School, 1100 Maine St. and students who live north of the McCullough Bridge can attend the roundup at North Bay Elementary School, 93670 Viking Lane.

Kindergarten Roundup provides an opportunity for parents to pre-register and learn about the curriculum, while meeting the teachers and the principal.

The schedule is:

* Thursday, May 8, from 3 to 6 p.m. in the meeting room at Hillcrest Elementary; and

* Thursday, May 15, at 6:30 p.m. in the library at North Bay Elementary.

Students entering kindergarten must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1. Parents should bring their child’s proof of age (birth certificate or hospital record) and immunization record. Proof of immunization is required prior to the first day of school, Wednesday, Sept. 3. Oregon law requires the following immunizations be up to date or complete prior to starting school:

* DPT — five doses required (unless fourth dose is given at age 4 or later).

* Polio — four doses required (unless third dose is given at age 4 or later).

* Measles — two doses.

* Rubella — one dose.

* Mumps — one dose.

* Hepatitis B series — three doses.

* Varicella — one dose or child has had the chicken pox.

If parents are unable to attend the meeting, they can pre-register by contacting either Hillcrest Elementary or North Bay Elementary.
