All weekend
Movies at Egyptian
The Egyptian Theatre offers different movies each weekend:
* “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” (1986), starring Matthew Broderick, is scheduled today;
* “Captain Blood” (1935), starring Errol Flynn, will play on Saturday; and
* The cartoon “All Dogs go to Heaven” (1989), starring Burt Reynolds as the voice of Charlie B. Barkin, will play on Sunday.
Friday and Saturday shows start at 7 p.m., and Sunday shows start at 3 p.m.
The box office opens one hour before showtimes. General admission is $4, $3.50 for seniors and those 12 and under, and $3 for members. All admission for benefit shows is $5.

Saturday
Slough canoeing
Paddling the Estuary will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the South Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve. Participants should bring their own kayak or canoe, paddle, life jacket, snacks and water, and meet at the South Slough Interpretive Center, four miles south of Charleston on Seven Devils Road. The cost is $15 per boat, and advance registration is required; there is an 8-boat limit.
The South Slough Interpretive Center has exhibits, a gift shop and information, and is open 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Tuesdays to Saturdays through May and daily in the summer. International fair
Southwestern Oregon Community College will celebrate cultures from all over the world with an International Student Carnival from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Hales Center for the Performing Arts lobby on the campus, 1988 Newmark Ave., Coos Bay.
The event, put together by the International Students at Southwestern, will include aspects of different students’ cultures including those from Korea, China, Japan, Mongolia, Italy, Taiwan and the Philippines. The activity is free to all who wish to participate.
Sunday
Ear, nose, throat clinic
A free ear, nose and throat clinic will be held from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 2289 Meade Ave., North Bend. Dr. Steven Shimotakahara, ENT surgeon, and Jennifer L. Scarbrough, audiologist, will be there. Free evaluations, treatments and referrals will be given. The clinic is only for people with low income and no health insurance.
Tuesday
Garden for Coquille
Coquille Community Garden organizers will hold their first meeting at 7 p.m. at the Coquille Community Building, 115 N. Birch. For more information, those interested can call Nancy Shinn at 396-1817.
Lapidary Society
The Far West Lapidary & Gem Society will meet at 7 p.m. at the Faith Lutheran Church, 2741 Sherman Ave., North Bend.
The business meeting will include workshop activities, such as stone identification, the art of wire wrapping and beading, as well as the cutting, grinding and polishing of stones.
Anyone interested in the lapidary arts is welcome to attend the club’s meetings. The club meets on the first and third Tuesday of the month except in December.

Wednesday
Women’s Time Out
Wednesday Women’s Time Out luncheon and event will be held at a new location, the VFW building in Bandon, at 11:30 a.m. The building is located at 55382 Bates Road, Bandon. Cost of luncheon and event is $10 inclusive, $5 for young moms.
Trish Lehosit of Bandon True Value Hardware will demonstrate how to create a floral Mother’s Day basket. Musical guest will be Bonnie Frazier of Brookings, a vocalist and guitarist.
The guest speaker will be newspaper columnist and traveler Marge Woodfin of Brookings. Reservations are required by 5 p.m. today. Moms should bring a sack lunch for children. Reservations must be honored or canceled 24 hours prior to the event or there will be charged.

‘Let’s Do Lunch’
Coos Bay/North Bend Connection’s “Let’s Do Lunch” for May will feature guest speaker Marge Woodfin of Brookings.
It will be held from 11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Red Lion Hotel, 1313 N. Bayshore Drive., Coos Bay. Cost for the luncheon and program is $12 inclusive.
Woodfin is a world traveler and newspaper columnist. Also, musician Bonnie Frazier will perform.
Reservations are required by Monday, and should be canceled if attendee is unable to come. Complimentary child care is available with advance request.
