Two chances to get outside this weekend

Birdwatching
Birding on the Bay will be held from 8 to 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 3. Participants can meet at the Charleston Information Center, 91141 Cape Arago Highway.
Organizers will provide binoculars, spotting scopes and an interpreter. The cost is $1 per birder.For more information, those interested can call 888-5558.
Visit the slough
Paddling the Estuary will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, at the South Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve. Participants should bring their own kayak or canoe, paddle, life jacket, snacks and water, and meet at the South Slough Interpretive Center, four miles south of Charleston on Seven Devils Road. The cost is $15 per boat, and advance registration is required; there is an 8-boat limit.
The South Slough Interpretive Center has exhibits, a gift shop and information, and is open 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Tuesdays to Saturdays through May and daily in the summer. Trails and waterways are open dawn to dusk every day. For more information and to register, those interested can call 888-5558.
