North Bend’s Bryce Weidman had another strong performance on the mound, shutting out visiting Sutherlin in a 5-0 victory in Far West League baseball action on Wednesday.
Weidman allowed three hits in the first two innings, but just one the rest of the way, and struck out 13 hitters, including eight of the last nine he faced.
Dalton Iveans and Kale Forrester each had two hits and drove in a run for North Bend. Forrester also scored a run.
North Bend improved to 9-0 in league play heading into a doubleheader at home against Brookings-Harbor today.
Vikings edge Lancers
Siuslaw strengthened its hold on second place in the Far West League with a 2-1 win over visiting South Umpqua on Wednesday.
Tyler Mais had a home run in the first inning for the Vikings and scored Siuslaw’s other run in the third when he tripled and came home on a single by Paul Johnston.
Mais also pitched six innings for the Vikings before Drew Rainwater came on in the seventh to record the save.
Ryan Smedley scored South Umpqua’s run in the sixth inning when he tripled and came home on a single by David Hueling. Kevin Warren had two hits for Siuslaw and Hueling had two hits for the Lancers.

Pirates fall
Marshfield lost another close Midwestern League game, done in by a couple late errors in a 4-2 defeat at Springfield on Wednesday.
The Millers scored twice after an error on a sacrifice bunt in the fifth inning and notched another run after an error on a similar play in the sixth.
The errors betrayed an outstanding day on the mound for the Pirates, who saw Jesse McClintock and Adam Reed combine for a three-hitter.
“Their hits just happened to come when there was someone in scoring position,” said Marshfield coach Quintin Hall. “It was disappointing.”
The Pirates hit the ball well themselves, with just one strikeout, but didn’t string enough hits together.
Marshfield got a run in the first when Ryan Campbell doubled and scored on a single by Gatlon Giorgis. Reed added a solo home run in the sixth inning.
Giorgis had two hits on the day for Marshfield.
The Pirates host Willamette on Friday.

Challengers top Tigers
Cascade Christian took advantage of early opportunities to beat host Bandon 13-1 on Wednesday.
“They played pretty good and we played pretty bad,” said Bandon coach Gary Chrismon.
The Tigers had five errors, with several contributing to four Cascade Christian runs in both the first and third innings.
Bandon pitcher Michael Bennett had a rare lack of control, walking three batters and hitting one, Chrismon said.
Meanwhile, the Tigers managed just two hits off Cascade Christian pitchers Ryan Pech and Taylor Thomas — both singles by Brian Haueter.
Ryder West had three hits for the Challengers.
