The cable guy gets barge strung up

Crane operator Jesse Harris is strapped to the top of a mast Wednesday afternoon as the 300-ton crane on the Karlissa B barge is strung with steel cable. Harris, and the rest of the crew from Titan Maritime, is preparing the Karlissa A and B for the removal of the rusting New Carissa stern, stuck in the surf off Coos Bay’s North Spit. Another member of the crew is in the yellow bucket dangling from another crane. Titan workers are readying two barges to be towed to the Pacific Ocean site in a couple of weeks, weather permitting. As the barge preparations are being done in Coos Bay, David Parrot, managing director for Titan, said construction crews also will start the bypass road and driving of piles needed for a tower sometime next week on the North Spit.-World Photo by Lou Sennick
