North Bend’s boys and Siuslaw’s girls won a three-team track and field meet that also included South Umpqua at North Bend on Tuesday.
Sam Lynass won the 1,500 meters and 300-meter hurdles for North Bend’s boys, while Siuslaw’s Mason Keck also was a double-winner, taking the long jump and triple jump.
The best race of the day came in the 800 meters, where distance specialists Spenser Lynass of North Bend and Travis Stevens of Siuslaw both came up just short in their quest to go under 2 minutes. Lynass was timed in 2:00.03, while Stevens crossed the line in 2:00.17.
North Bend’s Elliot Adams had a lifetime best in the shot put with his winning throw of 51 feet, 101⁄2 inches. He also had a season best in the discus, finishing second with a throw of 140 feet. Teammate Trae Collins threw 141-8 for the win.
The Bulldogs had two other impressive field event marks. Luke Clark, a senior competing in track for the first time, cleared 6-11⁄4 to win the high jump, while Lane Davison cleared 15 feet in the pole vault.
North Bend finished with 71.5 points, to 65.5 for Siuslaw and 43 for South Umpqua.
Siuslaw’s girls had 79.5 points, to 63.5 for North Bend and 31 for the Lancers.
Alexis Reavis of Siuslaw won the shot put with an effort of 38-7 and also won the discus. North Bend’s Sammie Clark cleared 11-6 to win the pole vault and also took the 100.
Siuslaw’s Raelyn Robinson overtook North Bend’s Jessianne Heley down the stretch to win the 1,500 in 5:04.60. Heley was timed in 5:07.76.
Pirates sweep
Marshfield’s boys and girls both beat host North Eugene in a Midwestern League dual.
Christopher Wise won both hurdles races for Marshfield’s boys, who beat the Highlanders 89-54.
Nine other boys also won events for Marshfield. The best marks came from Will Messerle in the javelin (177-8), Greg Eckes in the pole vault (14-6) and Jared Bassett in the 1,500 (4:06.02).
Moriah Roberge won the pole vault, long jump and javelin for Marshfield’s girls, who beat North Eugene 76-65.
Ali Worthen won the high hurdles (15.99) and 200 (26.89) in a pair of strong marks.
BASEBALL
Bruins win
Brookings-Harbor got a key Far West League win, beating visiting Douglas 3-1 on Tuesday.
Rain washed away all the other baseball games involving South Coast teams.
The Bruins moved into sole possession of third place, a game in front of the Trojans, and also secured the tiebreaker if the teams end up knotted for the final playoff spot.
“It was a big win — huge for our club,” said Brookings-Harbor coach Pat Berkowitz.
Tyler Parke pitched a two-hitter with 14 strikeouts and one walk for Brookings-Harbor. His only mistake came in the fifth inning, when he walked Tim Bellando and Brian Ortis hit an RBI double.
The Bruins scored twice in the third inning, when Parke walked and Patrick Carper hit a ball over the fence in left field. Brookings-Harbor added a run in the fifth, when Carper, Joey Lathorpe and Jacob Eszlinger hit consecutive singles with two outs.
Carper and Eszlinger had two hits each in the victory.
Brookings-Harbor, which improved to 6-4, visits league-leading North Bend on Thursday for a doubleheader.
SOFTBALL

Ciara Freeman had a two-out, two-run double with the bases loaded to drive in the winning runs as Brookings-Harbor beat host Douglas 4-3 in a Far West League game on Tuesday.
The Bruins improved to 7-3 in league play, while Douglas fell to 4-6.
All the other games involving South Coast teams were postponed to today.
