Brookings seeks councilor, planning commissioners

The Brookings City Council is seeking applicants to fill several volunteer positions.
City Council Position No. 3, which was vacated on April 14, has a term expiring in January 2011 and is at the top of the list. The city charter mandates this position must be filled within 60 days of the vacated date.
Council members spend significant time considering information in support of an informed decision making process. In addition to attending regular meetings, councilors attend executive sessions and workshop venues and are expected to serve as liaisons to a variety of local, county and state organizations and agencies.
Interested, qualified electors, who have lived within the city limits for 12 months may apply. Eligible applicants will be interviewed by council members during the Monday, June 9, City Council meeting.
Applications are available at City Hall or on the home page of the city’s Web site at www.brookings.or.us. The deadline to apply is 4:30 p.m. on May 30.
Applications also are being accepted for the following positions:
* Planning Commission Position No. 3: 4-year term ending April 1, 2012.
* Parks and Recreation Commission Position No. 6: 4-year term ending February 2009.
* Traffic Safety Committee Position No. 1: 1-year term ending March 2009.
* Traffic Safety Committee Position No. 2: 2-year term ending March 2010.
* Traffic Safety Committee Position No. 3: 3-year term ending March 2011.
All commission and committee positions are filled by City Council appointment and will remain open until filled. Applications are available at City Hall at 898 Elk Drive or on the city’s Web site at www.brookings.or.us.
Applications can be returned to the City Manager’s Office, City Hall, 898 Elk Drive between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
