Chinese team won’t play in CB

The International Basketball League games in Coos Bay lost an attraction when a Chinese team that was scheduled to play at Southwestern Oregon Community College on Wednesday night wasn’t able to arrive in the United States on time because of visa issues.

Still, the game will go on, with the Portland Chinooks of the International Basketball League facing an all-star team of players from across the country, including some pro prospects.

The Chinooks face the Central Oregon Hotshots tonight in a battle of two of the top scoring teams in IBL.

The games tonight and Tuesday at Prosper Hall both start at 7 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students and those 55 and older.

The Chinooks feature former Oregon State University standouts David Lucas and Chris Stephens. The Hotshots averaged nearly 150 points last season.

Mikal Duilio, the IBL commissioner, said the league is exploring the possibility of a team having the Bay Area as its base.

“We are excited about playing in Coos Bay and putting on a great show for basketball fans in the area,” he said. “We think it’s a great community with the potential to be a permanent home for an IBL team.

“I think the fans will really enjoy the pace of the game and the quality of the athletes.”
