Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton will get a helping hand from former President Bill Clinton this weekend, when he campaigns for her in North Bend and other Oregon cities.

According to a press release from the Hillary Clinton campaign, Bill Clinton will speak Friday at the North Bend Middle School gymnasium during  a “Solutions for America” event. Doors open at 7:45 p.m. He will continue the campaign trail on Saturday in Portland, Oregon City and Monmouth.

“We are very excited that President Clinton is going to be back in our state so soon and we think it’s important that he visits Coos County, because so many candidates aren’t able to get off the I-5 corridor,” said Julie Edwards, the Oregon communications director for the Hillary Clinton campaign. “But, so many of the challenges facing our state are in other areas. So, it’s important that he meets with those Oregonians, as well.”

Edwards said Solutions for America are wide-ranging discussions about Hillary Clinton’s proposals on issues ranging from health care and the economy to protecting natural resources.

“He will speak about challenges facing our country and Hillary’s proposals to meet those challenges,” Edwards said.

Oregon voters will have an opportunity to weigh in on the race in coming weeks via the Oregon Primary. The deadline to submit ballots is May 20.

A U.S. Senator since 2001, Hillary Clinton also was the first lady during Bill Clinton’s administration from 1993 to early 2001. New Yorkers re-elected the Democrat to her seat in the U.S. Senate in 2006.

Since January, she and Barack Obama have been locked in a tight battle for the Democratic nomination. So far, Clinton has won primaries and caucuses in 17 states.

However, Hillary Clinton has trailed Obama in delegates since February. Because of this fluctuating gap, analysts see her only chance of winning a nomination as gaining victories in almost all of the remaining primaries and thereby convincing undecided superdelegates that she is the best candidate to face Republican John McCain in November.

North Bend Middle School is located at 1500 16th St. in North Bend. The event is free and open to the public. There will be limited seating. An audio and video feed will be available for overflow attendance in the cafeteria.  School officials are encouraging people to carpool, as parking will be limited.  Available parking will be at the high school with some of the parking for the middle school being cordoned off.

For more information, those interested can visit www.hillaryclinton.com/northbend to RSVP for the event.

What do you not understand? People CHEAT! He was the president so people actually knew about it. He was a GOOD president. Why dont you all understand its just a stupid joke anyways. "Honey, If I stand by you when you cheat on me, you better stand by me when I run for president" AT LEAST if she wins, he'll be influencing her to make decisions because he actually did well in office. I'm only 18 and you guys can't figure this out.

Wizard wrote on May 18, 2008 4:20 PM:

Went to both Senators rallies the last week - and made my decision today - Hillary Clinton is the only experienced candidate that has solid solutions to our everyday problems.

The media has been trying to make Obama the President - after hearing him speak - he is a great orator - but come home and just to figure out what he said is impossible.

Hillary is warm, caring, thoughtful, and understanding with her answers and comments.

She attended a rally in New Orleans to give hope back to the black community that did not even vote for her - Obama was too busy with his campaign - much as he is now with the remaining primaries - just another politican.

Please Oregonians - vote with your heart - and even if you don't like Hillary Clinton - vote for her as a wakeup call that Obama will need us again in the general election if he becomes the nominee.

WOW's comment on Bill Clinton not doing anything bad in office...he didn't have MUCH to do AT ALL!! But he did cut our country security budget to nothing. I wonder how 911 would have been different if he hadn't!

We'll see how easily you forgive and forget when your husband cheats on you!

Your Pastor seems afraid.
I doubt, upon the Second Coming, that Jesus would be really that concerned about Hillary.

Re-elect NO ONE wrote on Apr 28, 2008 11:35 PM:

It is time to end the Dynasties in our elected offices. DO NOT elect anyone who has been or currently is in political office. This country is in a shambles and you want more of the same again? Bring in new blood and fresh ideas. If dislike Bush, why vote for someone he endorses? If you dislike Mr. Clinton, why vote in his wife? Politicians need to serve a term and move on!

It doesn't seem like anyone above left their computers and went. I did. He was great. He made sense. I saw Hillary a couple of weeks ago in Penn. She impressed me. I will vote for her.
For those still hooked up on the "Monica" thing, aren't the Republicans the family ideals party? No matter what Hillary would have done - somebody would piss and moan. Basically what ever happened, was between the both of them. I would have liked the Republicans to send the $53 million the "investigation" cost to Coos County - we could have used it.

You're right, it's George W. Bush, not Bush Jr. I stand corrected. Perhaps it was written with too much haste. But if that's the only thing you can find to poke a hole in, it must be a pretty sound argument.

Couldn't agree more with Mona. I think it's a shame that people are allowed to vote considering they choose candidates by how they look, if they're a woman, if they're black, and other really ignorant reasons. On Bill Clinton... I wouldn't vote for anyone related to him. He should have been impeached when he was in office, and you all know why. As far as Hillary goes...I have zero respect for a woman who stayed married to a man just so she could build a political carreer. She's as big a liar as Bill. The proof shall come when she looses this election (as she should) and dwindles out of politics. That's when she'll file for divorce. No, I do not have a voting preference and most likely will not vote this year because I have yet to see a candidate worthwhile. Where have our heros gone!

Ozzy wrote on Apr 26, 2008 10:52 PM:

Elaine,
Wake up! President Clinton was here and he delivered one outstanding address!

Rick wrote on Apr 26, 2008 10:51 PM:

Don,
I'm not surprised by your small-minded, narrow and fictional view on current events. If Bush Jr. had listened to his advisors who knew anything, even his own father, we wouldn't have invaded Iraq. Bush Sr., another of your beloved Republicans, had the opportunity to remove Hussein back in the first Gulf War. I would be the first to tell you something needed to be done about Hussein, but to go in and invade without a legitimate plan for the aftermath was stupid and it's been a failure. I'll bet Clinton's advisors warned him of that as well whenever they supposedly told him to invade Iraq. And to take on such a war even while our number 1 threat Osama Bin Laden is still at large and the aftermath of the Afghanistan invasion hadn't been cleaned up yet defies logic and common sense. So don't go blaming
Democrats because this Bush Administration can't think things through before it acts. Get a clue.

ARE YOU FOR REAL DON wrote on Apr 26, 2008 4:23 PM:

This is to DON, the republican... I know people in the republican party can never accept responsibility for what thier party has done BECAUSE that would reflect the fact that their president makes mistakes. And of course we all know he is perfection. So, republicans must blame democrats for everything. About Sadam, as I recall Sadam wasn't a threat to any one while President Clinton was in office. He had gotten rid of his WMD'S as promised to daddy bush and, he and his people were enduring the embargo daddy Bush had imposed on them. You remember don't you? So, why would President Clinton want to do like THE REPUBLICAN PRESIDENT BUSH so arregantly did, without provacation, and invade a country (killing it's leader and population)? Don, don't you remember how daddy bush didn't want to invade Bagdad in his war with Sadam? A war Sadam started by the way. Thats because daddy bush and Sadam were good friends. Gen. Swartzkof wanted to go into Bagdad and take out Sadam right then, but daddy bush said no... SO now DON who do you blame it on??? Why should Bill Clinton clean up daddy bushes war?

Susan wrote on Apr 26, 2008 2:15 PM:

I've got the answer! Those of you who want to see Bill Clinton, Go. Those of you who don't want to see him, well just stay home. If you like him and his wife, great. If you don't. Oh well. But he was a better President than that idiot, Bush.

Don wrote on Apr 25, 2008 9:49 PM:

I wouldn't vote for a clinton for any amount of money. If he had listened to his advisors we never would have had to go to Irag, who knows the region may have been stable had he removed Sadam back then.

But that's right you Dems forget that, Iraq is a Republican problem. Which I guess is true, we have to clean up YOUR mess, so do, Vote in Hillary, and we can do this again.

Be kind to the folks in the audiance, they aren't use to having the attention that your visit will cause, coming to their part of the world but I'm sure they will treat you with respect. Wow, all you wooden heads in Coos Bay/North Bend wouldn't know a gift horse if it bit you. While YOU may not like Bill Clinton, an awful lot of folks around the WORLD (and I don't mean the news paper) do like him and think of him as a fine statesman. Not all countries live with the same standards, both political and moral, the U.S. lives with so don't go saying President Clinton has brought disgrace throughout the world, to the U.S. because it just isn't true. The person you should pin that tail on is the REPUBLICAN who took our economy (the good one Bill Clinton left us with) and used our money to kill a country and its people AND who will leave us with the world hating us for the next hundred years. As for Bill Clinton and his follies with the ladies, well, he isn't the first U.S. President to cavort while in office nor is he the worst.. There are a whole list of them if you care to research presidental history. Both Democrat and Republican, have done their share of cavorting.

I agree with one of the emails in the beginning. Some of these negative remarks only reflect on the ignorance of the people making the statements. I cannot believe the hypocrisy as well. He who is without sin, throw the first stone? Get real. What about the war...an unjust war. How about the killing of another culture and it's people under false pretenses? The harm that has come about under Bush is so heinous compared to any person error in the Clinton era. Clinton is a man who should be respected for the many economic, social, and yes environmental policies he implemented. Instead of developing personal vendettas based on agreeing with your neighbor, get an education.

I have read all of the previous posts and I am really disgusted. This town is absolutely full of ignorant, backward thinking hillbillies. Regardless of who is coming to speak here, the vast majority of you will find something to cry and whine about. Many residents in this county just sit on their fat butts, collecting welfare, complain about the lack of jobs, pour in and out of WalMart, etc...How about going back to school and re-educating yourselves so that the loss of the fishing and logging industry won't leave you unemployed. No politian is perfect, no civilian is perfect. Some of you complain about Bill Clinton's morals. How many of you are alcoholics, child abusers, spousal abusers, etc? It makes me want to leave the coast all together.

Bill Clinton is a lot of things; imperfect, intelligent, driven. He also presided over 8 years of economic boom/growth in this country - and we had a strong, positive political presence in the world. While I don't agree with many of his personal choices (and I'm sure some of you writing in live in glass houses, also), he has done some amazing things for this country and for other countries. I think it's terrific that someone of his status is coming to our small corner of the world - it gives our community an opportunity to be center stage. I find many of these small-minded -- and coincidentally heavily Republican --arguments to be laughable. Since when does being aligned with the Democratic party equate to something bad for children or shameful for schools? I'll be proud to take my child to see a former president of the United States. But I guess I'm just a patriot. The Democrats actually support education, rather than mandating 100-percent results with no resources to do the job. And on morality, how many thousands of people died overseas under Clinton? I'm guessing not as many as in the quagmire Bush has gotten us into. Clinton didn't do everything right; I think the Northwest Forest Plan is enough evidence of that. But overall he was a good president who did some good things. As for the pathetic morality argument, those who live in glass houses shouldn't cast stones.

WOW, you would think that the people in Coos County would have more open minds with all that Ocean breeze coming through their ears. Oh well, there is enough sand for everyone to stick their heads in. Even if you don't like the speaker, at least hear what they have to say, it may surprise you

Sasha and others-- Bush,Nixon,Johnson,Grant were presedents, did their time, good bad or indifferent and left office quietly; but Bill Clinton was the only preident impeached and FOUND GUILTY and doesn't know when to shut up and go away! This ex-president is a disgrace to our nation but a wonderful spokesman
for Madame Hillary and her socialist ideology. On second thought, it is a good idea for ex-prez Bill to appear at the grade school. Hopefully the children will be instructed by their teachers that Bill is a prime roll model of what not to grow up to be like.

I believe that everyone deserves the chance to be heard and it is a smart move to come to North Bend to try to earn some votes for his wife. In past years how many people have actually cared about addressing our community? They always go to bigger places, I appreciate the fact that I don't have to drive to Eugene, Salem or Portland to hear what he has to say on behalf of his wife and I really hope that Obama takes the time to come here also.

Informed Voter, your nic oozes of irony. Please, for everyone's sake, do your homework before burping up lies about someone supposedly refusing to place his hand on a bible, saying the pledge etc.

Since you didn't, I will:

On the McCain point, you're right - We DO need to beat that warmongering old grump, and we need to do it with someone who can sweep the floor with him, not have a race that's close enough to rig.

Besides, if you're a true Democrat, you shouldn't be ragging on someone who could easily be our eventual nominee, providing rules aren't changed midstream. You're making Hillary supporters look even more divisive and uninformed than they already tend to do on their own already.

George W. Bush proves the most immoral and unethical president in recent history. His legacy makes Richard Nixon and Lyndon Baines Johnson look like saints. His corruption makes Ulysses Grant's administration resemble Mother Theresa's chastity. He stands daily in violation of his oath of office to the U.S. Constitution.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I am excited that Bill Clinton is coming to this area. We need a strong democrat to run against McCain and frankly I don't think that Obama could win. And if you want my honest opinion in a world of terrorism Obama scares me. Do you want a President who will NOT put his hand on a bible or will NOT put his hand over his heart to say the Pledge of Allegiance. I plan to be there to show my support.

Typically the handlers book smaller venues like this to give the overall appearance of a larger crowd.

If the room is filled to capacity with people scrunched together, you can get a super shot of Bill on the stage with the bottom portion of the photo filled with people.

Additionally, the press reports will say things like "Capacity Crowd", "Standing Room Only", "Busting at the seams with fans" etc.

Smoke and mirrors baby, smoke and mirrors.

North Bend Middle School? They must not think much of themselves booking a gym that only holds a few hundred. That must go along with Hillary's thought that it's not the vote of the public that matters, it's all about the Superdelegates. She's dilusional.
