OSU Extension Service sponsoring Homemakers' Holiday

The annual Homemakers’ Holiday will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, April 25, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 1290 Thompson Road, Coos Bay.

Registration will be from 8:30 to 9:30. The event is sponsored by Coos County Family and Community Education and Oregon State University Extension Service.

The special-day speaker will be Carol Houde, author of “The Pleasure of Your Company.” She will show some of the wedding gowns and fashions from her collection. She will speak twice during the day, focusing on fashions from 1880 to 1915 and 1920 to 1960.

Four classes will be offered: “History of Native American Weddings,” “Wedding Customs of Hawaii,” “Container Gardening” and “Celebration Cakes.” Participants can select two of the four.

Food will include a continental breakfast during registration and salad, sandwiches and desserts for lunch. There also will be door prizes.

Raffle tickets will cost $1 or 6 for $5. Raffle prizes will include a wrought-iron arbor by Eric Luckman, a quilt by Vera Lopez, artistic stepping stone by Allen Fields, an autographed copy of “The Pleasure of Your Company” and more.

A country store will be open.

Cost is $7 for pre-registration or $8 at the door.
