ESD invites parents to discuss programs
Monday, April 21, 2008 11:02 AM PDT

Parents, guardians and community members are invited to talk with Superintendent George Woodruff of the South Coast Education Service District from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the ESD conference rooms at 29805 Mary Street in Gold Beach and 1350 Teakwood, Coos Bay.

Woodruff will be present in Gold Beach. Distance conferencing technology will be used to link the sites.

The meeting will be open to discussions on any topic of interest, including recently announced program changes.

Participants are encouraged to share ideas about a new ombudsman or parent mentoring network, a concept previously proposed by parents, a press release said. Information will be available about parent mentoring and empowerment programs in other states.

The ground rules for the ESD’s parent-community advisory group are: open, honest and up-front meetings; all questions are fair to be asked; and the meeting structure will be comprised of conversation and information.

The Parent-Community Advisory Team was established by the South Coast ESD Board as an open forum for communication with the superintendent. A significant benefit of the parent-community meetings is the opportunity for parents to join together with others who share common ground in education.

Parents and guardians who are unable to attend the meeting can contact Woodruff at 266-3947 at any time. Feedback is invited about the time, location and agenda of the monthly parent-superintendent meetings to facilitate participation.

Care providers, advocates and extended family members are welcome to attend.

For directions or to sign-up for pizza, those interested can call Sharon Smith at 269-1611; or toll-free at (866) 813-7961.
