Oregon suffers through late April cold snap

Monday, April 21, 2008 |
PORTLAND (AP) — Freezing temperatures that caused crop damage and car crashes across Oregon this weekend could continue for another day or two, especially along the Columbia River Gorge and the Southern Oregon Coast.
In Pendleton, the National Weather Service warned Eastern Oregon farmers to “harvest or protect tender vegetation” and advised homeowners to cover potted plants or bring them indoors.
A freeze warning was also issued for much of southwest Oregon, from Reedsport to Ashland and over to Brookings.
Gale and high wind warnings were issued for small ships through Tuesday and a “hazardous seas” warning stands through Wednesday.
The Portland metro area should fare a little better in the unusual late April cold snap, but some sleet and even snow was expected.
