Pirates fall
Willamette scored twice in the bottom of the seventh inning to rally for a 6-5 win over visiting Marshfield on Friday.
The Wolverines won on an errant throw to home.
“We didn’t make the play at the end,” said Marshfield coach Quintin Hall. “It was probably the first time we played all the way through, and luck wasn’t on our side.”
The Pirates scored three runs in the first inning and two in the third. Adam Reed hit a two-run home run and Tyler Graves had a two-run single.

Bulldogs sweep Trojans
North Bend pitched its way to a pair of one-run wins in a doubleheader at home against Douglas, setting up a showdown for first place with Siuslaw on Tuesday.
In the opening 1-0 victory, Bulldog pitcher Kale Forrester logged 11 strikeouts. The winning run came on a double from Skyler Walton in the sixth.
The Bulldogs again topped the Trojans in a 5-4 win in the second game, this time behind a 12-strikeout performance from Bryce Weidman, who also tallied a double and a run scored. North Bend’s Dalton Iveans went 3-for-3 on the day, with a run scored and an RBI.
In the bottom of the seventh, Douglas walked two batters and advanced a third on an error, bringing Iveans up to bat with the bases loaded and the game tied at four. Iveans walked on four pitches and the winning run came home.
“I think we pitched really well today, I think we wished we would have swung the bats a little better,” said North Bend coach Brad Horning. “But the kids did a good job of sticking together and taking what they gave us.”
North Bend and Siuslaw, both 6-0, play Tuesday at Clyde Allen Field.
Vikings edge Sutherlin
Siuslaw pulled out two narrow, one-run victories over Sutherlin at home, including a 9-8 win in 10 innings in the second game of a doubleheader.
In that matchup, the ball game was tied at three after four innings and even at six after the end of the seventh inning. Both squads scored a run in the eighth, but Suislaw stole the game in the ninth with two runs to Sutherlin’s one.

Panthers edge Tigers
The pitching of Gold Beach’s Mitch McDonald was too much for Bandon as the Tigers suffered a 2-0 defeat at home. McDonald struck out 11 batters, allowing two hits all game.
“McDonald was just tough today,” said Bandon coach Gary Chrismon.
The Panthers’ Todd Martin went 2-for-3 on the day with one run scored, and McDonald had a nice day at the plate as well, going 2-for-3 with a two-run single.
